You read that right: a full trailer for Disney’s Snow White remake has leaked ahead of any official release. Apparently, this trailer is supposed to (or was supposed to) play in front of Wicked: Part One, but it didn’t play at my showing; we had trailers for Elio and Mufasa, among other movies. Despite Rachel Zegler’s best efforts, most of this movie’s marketing, of which there hasn’t been much, has been very tame. Snow White sitting in a meadow, static images of the admittedly horrifying dwarfs, etc. But this trailer really lays it all out there if you’re curious as to what this version will actually be about. Check out this trailer before Disney cease-and-desists it out of existence:
So, this looks exactly like what everyone was worried about. We only get one shot of the Prince, and Snow White is copying Wish’s Asha, marching into the Kingdom to demand the people’s rights. We don’t know exactly what the Queen has stolen from the people, but Snow White is going to get it back. I know it’s just a trailer, but it’s what Zegler promised. The themes of friendship, gratitude, and true love are gone in favor of one female monarch dethroning the other to be slightly more egalitarian or something. I’ve always loved Disney, but I’m just tired at this point, man. This trailer embarrasses me as a fan of the original. I tend to say the best (and only worthwhile) Disney remakes distinguish themselves from the originals on which they’re based, but this ain’t that. You have to pay homage to the original and keep the core themes and characters intact. Cinderella gave the Prince more personality and a more active role in the story; it didn’t remove him or give his traits to Cinderella. I don’t think this movie will inspire girls like Zegler wants it to, because I doubt many will watch it. And this isn’t her fault, but the hair and makeup department did her DIRTY. Oh wow, she looks rough. Casting her opposite Gal Gadot (who is supposed to be jealous of her?) was just mean, but she looks washed out, and that wig is not helping.
I like Gal Gadot, but I’d be more impressed if she were able to play the crone, too. That looks and sounds like someone else, which isn’t surprising, as Gadot lacks that kind of range from what I’ve seen. But it’s a little disappointing. And now, we know for sure that there are dwarfs in this movie, not woodland creatures. I guess we can all thank Peter Dinklage for making sure they’re CG monstrosities instead of actual little people in costumes, which would have looked so much better. That would have been better for little people actors, too. I can’t find the casting for the dwarfs, but if they’re digital anyway, I’m sure Disney hired average-height actors for the voices. Snow White doesn’t have to be an activist for the people to be likable; it would have worked wonders if they kept her kindness and generosity from the original intact. This Snow White seems angry rather than compassionate towards her people, as they want her to come off. This is just all a big mistake, and probably not a cheap one for Disney.
But what do you think about the trailer? Are you excited for what looks to be the most disastrous Disney remake yet? Will they finally dial it back on disrespecting the originals after this? Sound off in the comments below!

Dwarves look worse than I expected. Zegler is so unlikable. Probably the least liked star this lifetime for me. Sadly, they should have made a movie called Evil Queen and just made Gal Gadot the lead and done another Maleficent or Wicked.
