Letitia Wright Denounces Daily Wire Involvement in Distributing Sound of Hope

Does the messenger matter more than the message? Letitia Wright seems to think so. The actress who plays Shuri, Black Panther’s sister, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is one of the producers of Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, a movie about an East Texas church that helped twenty-two families adopt seventy-seven foster children. Angel Studios, the company behind last year’s massive hit Sound of Freedom and this year’s Cabrini, is distributing the film, and it’s partnered with The Daily Wire to do it. Expectedly, this is not sitting well with the left (nor, I imagine, is Angel Studios’ involvement, or the Christian aspects of the story, or puppies), and they’ve been haranguing Wright online for her involvement with them. Wright issued a statement on Instagram, which you can read below, courtesy of Deadline:

Letitia Wright Daily Wire

In fairness to Wright, she does seem to be chastising the leftists who are making this political by focusing on people they don’t like distributing the film. But she also expresses her displeasure with The Daily Wire’s involvement, calling it politicizing the movie. That seems awfully ungrateful to me, especially if she cares about Sound of Hope as much as she says she does (and if she’s producing a movie she’s not acting in, I assume she does). Why does it matter if The Daily Wire distributes the movie, or helps distribute it? My guess is that the left-wing studios that dominate Hollywood – who are never shy about politicizing anything, by the way, although I guess it’s okay when they do it – didn’t step up, much like they didn’t for Sound of Freedom, which Disney buried for years before Angel Studios acquired it. And I’m not entirely sure she even cares; Letitia Wright has gotten in hot water with leftists before when she questioned the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines, and I think she’s trying to avoid another ordeal with these fascist thugs. And if that’s the case, I get it; it’s easy for us to say we’d rather she stay strong, but she’s a relatively young actress trying to build a career. She has a lot to lose, especially if she’s perceived by the studios as being a liability. But it sucks that it turned out this way and that she’s helping politicize a movie she wants to be free of politics.

Jordan Harmon of Angel Studios and Jeremy Boering of The Daily Wire responded to Letitia Wright. Here’s Harmon’s:

“This powerful film takes a stand for vulnerable kids, and we’re pursuing partners who are passionate about this fight. Angel Studios is grateful for both Letitia and Daily Wire’s partnership on getting this story out into the world, and everyone concerned about the foster care and adoption crisis to get involved and see Sound of Hope.”

And this is Boering’s:

“On its opening day – July 4th – Sound of Hope was one of the highest grossing films nationwide, second only to Disney’s biggest release of the year. This movie is tracking to be huge and has the potential to launch a movement to end America’s foster crisis.

The Daily Wire is truly honored to partner with Angel Studios on such an important project.

But, such is the intolerance of the modern left that instead of celebrating this accomplishment and all it might mean, one of the film’s producers, Letitia Wright of Black Panther fame, used the occasion to condemn The Daily Wire’s involvement in sharing this message across the country.

Letitia and I probably don’t share the same politics, but I believe we share a Christian faith and, more importantly, the same goal of shining a light on something we can all agree on – a community banding together to help kids in need.

We hope people don’t allow this distraction to steal from the message from the film and the impact it can have. Everyone should see this movie and join the fight for kids. It’s too important not to.”

Angel and Daily Wire running into the same problems that the West did, which is, diversity and virtue-signaling by doing the right thing turns out that no good deed goes unpunished.

We hardly ever saw this when The Weinstein Company dominated distribution. There weren’t these pearl-clutching disavowals.

Letitia has ZERO on-screen appeal to me.

It’s too bad, because I had high hopes for Angel Studios.

Letitia got it right and I got it wrong.
TDW fired Candace over “Christ is King.” TDW and Boering do not share the values and it makes no sense for them to be involved with Angel.
    I spoke too soon.

“But she also expresses her displeasure with The Daily Wire’s involvement, calling it politicizing the movie.” – If I were her my displeasure with The Daily Wire’s involvement would be that it’ll get next to no views behind their paywall. That said she’s not wrong, The Daily Wire is known primarily for its right-leaning “news” (I’d argue more op-eds than news), so they are by definition a highly political entity.
