According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake has added Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and Harry Trevaldwyn. They will play Fishlegs, Snotlout, and siblings Ruffnut and Tuffnut in Dean DeBlois’ remake of his own animated movie. These new faces join Mason Thames and Nico Parker in the lead roles of Hiccup and Astrid, as well as Gerard Butler reprising his role of Chief Stoick from the animated film and Nick Frost as Gobber. June 13th, 2025 is when Universal expects to release the film.
Julian Dennison is the best-known of the bunch, having appeared in Deadpool 2, The Christmas Chronicles 2, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople; the rest are relative nobodies, at least in America. Gabriel Howell has only been in two projects, a movie called The Fence and a miniseries called Bodies. Bronwyn James has mostly done TV work, acting in series like Slow Horses, Silent Witness, Harlots, and The ABC Murders. And Harry Trevaldwyn has been in the films The King, The Bubble, and Sweet Sue. It makes sense that they’re unknown because they’re all young, which makes sense considering the characters they’re playing. It may have no real reason to exist, but at least the How to Train Your Dragon remake is trying to keep the characters close to their origins; that’s something, I guess.
