Actor Mena Massoud has revealed that a sequel to 2019’s Aladdin is unlikely to come to fruition. Massoud played the titular character in Disney’s live-action remake of the 1992 classic. The sequel was announced in 2020 following the film’s box office success. Then, in December of 2022, Massoud said, “There was a change with the writers, and they are working on a brand new draft. That’s all I know. If Aladdin 2 happens, that’s fantastic. I think it should happen.” Check out his latest remarks in a new Tweet:
Very unlikely at this point

Well, I can’t say I’m disappointed. I didn’t like the remake much; it was the usual best hits playlist Disney tries to pass off as a new movie. They took out or misrepresented some of the best parts of the original Aladdin and offered nothing unique or new. I’ve enjoyed some of the Disney remakes, but this trend is reminiscent of the 90s/early 2000s DTV sequel boom. I won’t be sorry when it finally passes.
But what do you think? Do you want to see live-action Aladdin 2? Tell us in the comments!
