More Disney Disasters on Day Three of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Even someone as cynical about Disney as I am didn’t think the Disney World situation could get much worse, but it seems I still haven’t learned to stop overestimating this company. This weekend was the debut of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Disney World’s replacement for Splash Mountain (the most popular theme park ride on Earth, because Disney is in sync with its customers), and for the first two days, it continued the abysmal performance it showed during its preview period, with the ride constantly closing, presumably because it was still breaking down. Yesterday, it was joined by other rides and attractions closing to the public, like Pirates of the Caribbean. Today, somehow, things got even worse, as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was closed again; this time, the guests riding it were evacuated, and the water was drained, according to BlogMickey.com:

The Grand Floridian, a resort in Disney World, is also being refurbished, with certain sections closed, such as M. Mouse Mercantile, the resort’s main store (photo courtesy of Krista):

And there’s a restaurant in The Magic Kingdom that has a big tarp over it (photo again courtesy of Krista):

On top of all this, several attractions are going to be closed throughout the summer. Peter Pan’s Flight, a ride in The Magic Kingdom, is set to close for renovations on July 8 and reopen on August 21, according to theme park enthusiast Scott Gustin:

Also closed is Test Track, an attraction at Epcot Center where guests can design and drive a “virtual concept car,” with the website saying it’s being “reimagined.” This has been closed for several days, according to  A Disney World After All:

BlogMickey has also been told that Big Thunder Mountain will close during the summer for “a lengthy refurbishment.”

In some good news, the Rock ‘n Roll Coaster in Hollywood Studios (which is a roller coaster featuring the music of Aerosmith, and I have to admit, that sounds pretty cool) is now open, having been closed for refurbishment.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a disaster; we can all see that now. It wasn’t ready to open, but Disney went ahead with it anyway, and now, they look like idiots. But even beyond that, it’s ridiculously stupid to have all of these attractions closed during the summer, which is their most visited time of year. Why not renovate these things in winter, fall, or even spring? Is no one planning ahead? I understand that sometimes things happen beyond anyone’s control, but this is too much. Test Track is being “reimagined;” that’s not something that has to be done on-season. And why are they renovating gift shops and restaurants while the most people they’ll see all year are waiting to eat food and buy things? Even if these renovations are necessary, how did Disney let so many parts of their parks get to the point where they’d have to be closed during the summer? Thunder Mountain is another of their most popular rides, and they left its repairs to the summer? It’s hard to feel bad for a company this inept; the folks at Disney are bringing their financial troubles on themselves.

You mean the company that hires based on skin color and sexual orientation as opposed to talent and merit can’t keep shit running? That’s a head scratcher.
