Hayao Miyazaki‘s new anime film, The Boy and the Heron/How Do You Live has been selected to screen at 2023’s New York Film Festival for its American premiere. The latest Studio Ghibli release follows in the footsteps of Miyazaki’s last feature-length film, The Wind Rises, from a decade ago. Named after the 1937 Japanese novel The Boy and the Heron (but with an original story), the fantasy film is expected to be the famed director’s last, making it an even bigger event than the usual Mizayaki release for anime fans.
The Boy and the Heron/How Do You Live is part of the New York Film Festival’s Spotlight Section, which features “significant and surprising films, one-of-a-kind presentations including adventurous portraits of creative minds, one-night only events with live musical accompaniment, bold short films by acclaimed directors, and probing documentaries.” The New York Film Festival will run from September 29 through October 15, presented by Film at Lincoln Center.
