New Reacher Season 3 Trailer Promises Old-Fashioned Action

2025 is kicking off with something a little old-fashioned. Today, Amazon released a full trailer for Reacher season 3, the next chapter in its action series based on the novels of Lee Child about a wandering former MP named Jack Reacher. An adaptation of Persuader, the seventh book in the series, Reacher season 3 finds the hulking do-gooder helping the DEA by going undercover to bring down a drug ring while seeking revenge on an enemy from his past. Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher, as does Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, Reacher’s old MP friend and perennial ally. As usual, the rest of the cast is made up of new faces, with Anthony Michael Hall, Sonya Cassidy, Brian Tee, Johnny Nerchtold, and Olivier Richters joining Ritchson and Sten this time. Reacher season 3 premieres on Amazon Prime on February 20, 2025, and you can see the new trailer below:

I love everything about this Reacher season 2 trailer. I can tell it was carefully designed to remind people that Reacher is a throwback to the old-school action shows and movies of the 80s, stuff like The A-Team. It’s in every detail down to the song they chose – “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas, a classic rock tune about a wandering man searching for meaning… much like Jack Reacher. It’s also a great piece of Americana, like the image of Reacher riding a motorcycle without a helmet on the open road towards the end, the free American with no regard for the rules imposed on him. Even the opening scene, a longer version of the one from the teaser, has Reacher eating at one of those kitchen-style diners you see in small towns before defending a lady’s honor from a couple of punks. There’s the tough guy stuff like the arm wrestling, the next beautiful woman he has sex with (remember when James Bond movies were cool and had stuff like this?), the gunfights, the beatdowns, and Neagley’s line about how Reacher finds the powerful monsters who always get away with their evil and makes them pay. Unlike 90% of what’s made today, this is a guy’s show, and it’s not ashamed of it. (Is this a response to Ritchson’s anti-Trump supporter rhetoric? Maybe partly, but I think it’s also the show’s selling point.)

Reacher Season 3 trailer, Reacher, Reacher season 3

The new Reacher season 3 trailer also sets up some of the major plot points. Like Robert Patrick’s character in season 2, season 3 doesn’t try to hide the fact that the biggest name in the cast is the bad guy, establishing right away that Anthony Michael Hall is the drug kingpin Reacher is after. And that’s fine; like the books (the three I read, at any rate), Reacher is straightforward in that regard, setting up the villains right away so we can take pleasure in seeing Reacher ruin their schemes before beating them into paste. That may not be so easy this time, though, because Reacher season 3 features something we haven’t seen yet: a physical threat to Jack Reacher in the form of Olivier Richters, a 7’2 bodybuilder who manages to dwarf Alan Ritchson. The trailer suggests that, rather than have Reacher face him early and lose, the conflict between them will simmer throughout the season before they have a big fight in the last episode. That makes sense, and I like the way Reacher keeps antagonizing him, which is completely in character. It could also point to a flaw of his; perhaps his great strength makes Reacher overconfident, and when he’s up against someone who’s clearly a physical threat, Reacher doesn’t see the danger until it’s too late. I’m interested in seeing how it plays out, and I can’t wait for Reacher to come back; this is one of the few shows I won’t put on the back burner.
