Rey ain’t going away. Yesterday, Virginia wrote about a new Star Wars trilogy being written and produced by Simon Kinberg of some of the X-Men movies. There was no information on the three films Kinberg is stewarding in that piece, aside from that they won’t be attached to the Skywalker Saga, the main storyline of the Star Wars movies that has encompassed all three previous trilogies. Today comes word that this may not be the case. Actually, it originated yesterday, when Deadline – who broke the news – got conflicting reports about the new trilogy, some claiming it would indeed be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga and would act as Episodes X-XII, while others said it would be an off-shoot like the other Star Wars films currently in production. Jeff Sneider, the scoop master behind the InSneider blog (via That Park Place due to a paywall), has spoken to his own sources, and they tell him this will be Episodes X-XII of the Skywalker Saga and that Daisy Ridley will return as Rey in a role similar to that of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original trilogy. (I’ll bet she won’t die, though.) He also says that this new trilogy will pick up after Charmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s upcoming New Jedi Order, which will see Rey stealing the storyline everyone wanted for Luke Skywalker and rebuilding the Jedi Order to make sure it doesn’t turn into a patriarchy. However, Sneider also says that while New Jedi Order has a new writer, the film may not be made after all, with its story effectively being told in the new trilogy. Episodes X-XII will act as the final statement on Star Wars from Kathleen Kennedy and Bob Iger when they retire next year, something confirmed for Iger and rumored for Kennedy, although Sneider hears this time, it’s for real.
Exciting, huh? Nah, I don’t think so either. First of all, I trust Jeff Sneider when it comes to Hollywood rumors; his scoops tend to pan out, like all his reporting on The Fantastic Four: First Steps. And it makes sense that they’d want to use New Jedi Order as a springboard into the next trilogy; Disney and Lucasfilm have had trouble getting people excited for more Star Wars (can’t imagine why), but slapping those Roman numerals on the titles gives them an air of importance, like these are the real Star Wars movies, the ones people feel obligated to see no matter how bad the last one was. Whether enough people still feel that obligation will be interesting to learn (I still haven’t seen The Rise of Skywalker, so they’ve lost me), but I’m sure Disney is banking on it. And I don’t blame them; they’ve got nothing else to attract people to Star Wars anymore, having killed their last remaining golden goose with season 3 of The Mandalorian. This also fits with Chris Gore’s report that Kathleen Kennedy wants to leave Lucasfilm on a “big win,” which was supposed to be Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but… yeah. I can see her “big win” being the announcement of the next trilogy featuring her featured character, Rey, effectively branding her name on Star Wars beyond her exit from Lucasfilm. I’ve said that I believe New Jedi Order will happen if only so Kathleen Kennedy can shove Rey down everyone’s throat one more time, but locking in this trilogy before she leaves would be an even bigger power play, like she’s saying, “Star Wars is mine now.” And it’s hard to care; she and her team of obnoxious activists have killed Star Wars many times over at this point; all that’s left is for them to desecrate the corpse, which they appear to be more than happy to do.
Let us know what you think of these rumors about the new Star Wars trilogy in the comments!

My favorite term for people like them is “cultural vandals.” I don’t remember who coined that, but they were right. They’re essentially spraying self-aggrandizing graffiti over something someone else built. This final batch of Rey movies has “spite” written all over it because they know everyone hates it and they want to take one more shot at the fans they alienated.
It really feels like these are the Kamala and Hillary days of Star Wars.
Nothing but disaster.
That made me laugh. And much like those two monstrous harpies, America is rejecting modern Star Wars.
The obsession with girl-boss Mary Sue feminism is an insistence on ruining this brand.
It’s embarrassing to be a fan of this franchise now for the simple fact that they are not out there breaking the bank to get a top director like a James Cameron or a Robert Rodriguez or even like, dare I say, Nolan. Blomkamp. Instead, they picked some WEF lady with no experience nor track record. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is so insulting as a suggestion and serious consideration. Kathleen Kennedy is frightening. All things are going this way though, with rainbow flag girls ruining governments and businesses. That is what’s going on, but it’s still not said often enough. I’m respectful, but not to this behavior and decision-making.
Again, they had a golden chance to somehow bring back Drew Karpyshyn. The executive decisions are poor. Kennedy, Headland and Chinoy make women look bad. One thing the election for president made me realize is that IDGAF about the background of any candidate, just performance. That’s all it is. What you say, what you stand for, how you carry yourself. We do not have even one shred of sexism, racism, or misogyny but better watch your mouth and deliver. If they think they are just going to brush off fans, they will continue to lose. What’s missing in them is the shame and realization that they suck and are making women look bad with the giggly girl power woke virtue-signaling. The fans don’t like it. Kennedy and Chinoy live in such privilege that they are not capable anymore. Too soft. No edge. They can’t let go though. A real talent could take it or leave it.
