Pamela Anderson is parodying herself. Deadline exclusively reports that the former Baywatch star and 90s sex symbol will appear in the remake/reboot/whatever of the classic spoof film The Naked Gun. There’s no word on who she’ll play, but it’s safe to assume she’ll be the love interest of Lt. Frank Drebin, who will be played by Liam Neeson. The Naked Gun remake/reboot/whatever will be directed by Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer from a script by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, with Seth MacFarlane producing. The original Naked Gun films were movie versions of a TV show called Police Squad! (the full name of the first one is actually The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!), with Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin and the same creative team — Jim Abrahams and the Zucker Brothers, David and Jerry — as the writers and David Zucker directing. (These were the same guys who made Airplane!)The remake/reboot/whatever of The Naked Gun is penciled in for a July 18, 2025 release.
People are wondering if Pamela Anderson will be playing Jane Spencer, the character Priscilla Presley played in The Naked Gun, and if it’s a straight-up remake, I guess she will be. If it’s just another story with the same name as The Naked Gun, she could still be playing Jane, but she could just as easily be someone else. Not that it matters much, I guess. I try to save these up because everything is being remade now, but why are they remaking The Naked Gun? I love Liam Neeson, but Leslie Nielsen’s Frank Drebin is iconic, and this will never be as good as that series. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand were writers on How I Met Your Mother (and not during the good years), the Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie, and Dolittle. That doesn’t instill me with a lot of confidence that they’re worthy successors to the spoof kings behind The Naked Gun, Airplane!, and Top Secret! Akiva Schaffer at least directed a couple of movies I liked, Hot Rod and The Watch, but I still think this is a disaster waiting to happen. I guess it’ll be nice to see Pamela Anderson again, though.
