Questlove Will Direct Disney’s Aristocats Remake
A Deadline exclusive reports that Questlove will direct Disney’s remake of The Aristocats. The 1970 original Aristorcats starred Eva Gabor and Disney mainstay Phil Harris as cats on the run from a murderous butler. At this time, the film’s release date is unknown, as well as whether it will go to cinemas or straight to Disney+. The film will be a hybrid animation/live-action project.
Questlove, whose real name is Ahmir Thompson, has an ongoing relationship with Disney, having voiced Curley the barber in Soul and directed the Summer of Soul documentary a few years ago. I’m by no means an expert on Questlove, who is best known as a member of the hip-hop band The Roots. I’m tired of these remakes, and the hybrid nature of this one isn’t encouraging, but I guess we’ll wait and see. The Aristocats isn’t a great movie to begin with, but I have a fondness for it. What can I say? I saw it a lot as a kid, and I love cats.
