Prime Video has released the new full trailer for season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, which is being as well received as the others—not well at all. The entire thing is essentially as if the CW had a bigger budget yet still lacked any and all talent to write a decent story.
It’s all action to distract from and hide the utter garbage this “retelling” is, and, of course, every shill is out there to defend it. There is absolutely nothing about this show that is Tolkien; it is a total bastardization of his life’s work and an insult to the late professor’s legacy and memory. None of these people at Amazon truly care about this epic. They believe that “good is evil and evil is good” and have created a nihilistic view of The Lord of Rings, which is the complete opposite of what the story is all about.
The characters are poor rip-offs of the true ones, and if one looks closely enough, it can be seen how many repurposed scenes are taken from Peter Jackson’s original cinematic trilogy, as well as lines reworked into a jumbled mess, nothing like the poetic prose of Tolkien. This entire show is a giant pile of feces attempting to pass as something remotely good. If Rings of Power were its own entity—which, truthfully, it is, being that it in no way resembles The Lord of the Rings—it would still fail. The writing is atrocious, the acting abysmal, and there is NO soul in it at all, just like the CGI remakes of the old, classic Disney films.
Worst of all about this series, as stated by one of the showrunners, is that Sauron is “the hero of his own story.” The very epitome of evil, the evil Dark Lord Sauron… the “hero… it’s a total oxymoron to hear such a word describing Sauron. Of course, to most villains in stories, they are indeed the heroes in their warped minds, but to in any way attempt to place redeeming qualities on something or someone so purely evil is against everything Tolkien believed.
In a letter to Milton Waldman published in The Silmarillion, Tolkien explained just who Sauron is, his motivations, and how he became so evil.
“In the Silmarillion and Tales of the First Age Sauron was a being of Valinor perverted to the service of the Enemy and becoming his chief captain and servant. He repents in fear when the First Enemy is utterly defeated, but in the end does not do as was commanded, return to the judgement of the gods.”
“He lingers in Middle-earth. Very slowly, beginning with fair motives: the reorganising and rehabilitation of the ruin of Middle-earth, ‘neglected by the gods’, he becomes a re-incarnation of Evil, and thing lusting for Complete Power — and so consumed ever more fiercely with hate (especially of gods and Elves).”
And this made-up symbiotic relationship between Sauron and Celebrimor is utterly false from what is described in Unfinished Tales: The Lost Lore of Middle-Earth.
“Sauron had better fortune with the Noldor of Eregion and especially with Celebrimbor, who desired in his heart to rival the skill and fame of Fëanor.”
“Sauron used all his arts upon Celebrimbor and his fellow-smiths, who had formed a society or brotherhood, very powerful in Eregion, the Gwaith-i-Mírdain; but he worked in secret, unknown to Galadriel and Celeborn. Before long Sauron had the Gwaith-i-Mírdain under his influence, for at first they had great profit from his instruction in secret matters of their craft. So great became his hold on the Mírdain that at length he persuaded them to revolt against Galadriel and Celeborn and to seize power in Eregion; and that was some time between 1350 and 1400 of the Second Age.”
“Now Celebrimbor was not corrupted in heart or faith, but had accepted Sauron as what he posed to be; and when at length he discovered the existence of the One Ring he revolted against Sauron, and went to Lórinand to take counsel once more with Galadriel.”
So it is abundantly clear that the recent statement from showrunner Patrick McKay admitting they chose the Second Age so they could “improv within a loose framework” is exactly what they have done. They have decimated a story that has gone on for decades, being passed from generation to generation, creating new fans each time one would crack open The Hobbit for the first time or viewing The Fellowship of the Ring on the big screen with awe. But we will not surrender this beloved IP to the overlords at Amazon. We will continue to fight in the best way we can, by gatekeeping and, of course, with glorious memes.

This columnist has edge for sure.
Totally agree with the whole Sympathy for the devil type of show giving villains a backstory in an attempt to make true evil changed into some kind of misunderstood flawed person.
lol I couldn’t help myself what with one of my favorite IPs being destroyed. Thank you for the comments!
Got caught up in watching some esoteric videos and one of the comments, a person was saying that Tolkien might have taken the idea from King Solomon’s ring that gave him command over demons.
He got mocked for saying this though.
