RUMOR: Batman Returns and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Ends

Not even Sweet Baby Inc. can kill Batman, but Batman fans can kill a bad video game. A recent series of X posts from a video game scooper named Miller Ross, who Bounding Into Comics says is proven and reliable, claims to have information on what the next few seasons of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will look like, as well as the apparent timetable for the game’s ongoing support, which, as you probably expected, will peter out faster than that of Marvel’s Avengers. But the biggest news, according to Ross, is that Kevin Conroy recorded some dialogue for the “post-launch campaign” before he tragically passed away.

As for how Conroy and Batman (but I repeat myself; rest in peace, sir, and thanks for every last word) will figure into the next few “seasons” of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, these reveals naturally contain spoilers, so if you’re one of the three or four people playing this game, you may want to look away.

*SPOILERS FOR SUICIDE SQUAD: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE SEASONS 2-5*

See, this is what’s so frustrating about a game like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. There is no reason a storyline like that should be anything but insanely cool. The Justice League and the Suicide Squad teaming up to fight multiple versions of Brainiac as he tries to take over the multiverse while Deathstroke questions which side he wants to take? That sounds like a huge comic book epic, and the possibilities with a video-game version of it are endless. But after the way the main game played out, after that ridiculous Sean Hayes version of the Joker from the first DLC season, I doubt anyone trusts it to be as great as it should be.

But hold the phone: I thought Batman and the rest of the Justice League were all killed off in the main game. How are they suddenly back? Are these alternate-universe versions of DC’s greatest heroes?

Suicide Squad Batman Kevin Conroy So, does that mean these weren’t the Earth-1 (presumably) versions of the characters? This wasn’t the Batman you played as in the Arkham series? And they chose not to reveal this until the post-game DLC? This is really weird. And if Kevin Conroy recorded voice work for the DLCs, it means this was all planned from the beginning, albeit very poorly. It feels like Rocksteady wanted Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to fail.

And based on Miller Ross’ posts, fail it did, because Season 5, which will launch next year, is probably going to be the end of the game. What an ignominious end to the Arkham series, something as close to universally loved (for the most part, anyway) as it gets. It didn’t have to be this way.

Thanks to Yellowflash, whose video clued me in to this story.
