Is Hulk about to smash in his own movie again? A new rumor making the rounds suggests he is. First, while nothing official has been announced, rumors from back in June said that Marvel had regained the movie rights to the Hulk from Universal. Universal, who made 2003’s Hulk, had the rights to the character, with 2008’s The Incredible Hulk being distributed by them (this is before Disney bought Marvel). Since then, Hulk has been a supporting character in other movies to avoid violating Universal’s rights. If Marvel now has the rights back, they can make a solo Hulk movie through Disney. With that in mind, a couple of days ago, the online scooping account CanWeGetSomeToast tweeted about Marvel’s plans to make the Hulk a big part of the MCU:
Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk is a bit of a different story. Kevin Feige is conscious of how the rights situation with Hulk always kept him as more of a supporting character rather than one of the mains.

Retweeting CanWeGetSomeToast was another online scooper, MyTimeToShineHello, who added that a solo Hulk movie is on the docket, as well as that Hulk will be in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty:
We are getting a solo Hulk movie and Hulk will be in Kang Dynasty https://t.co/ORfMa8rhM3

Obviously, this should be taken with a grain of salt. It hasn’t been confirmed, and these are the only two sources being credited with the rumor. However, they’ve both been right before; CanWeGetSomeToast was the first to reveal that Wolverine would be wearing his blue-and-yellow comic book costume in Deadpool 3, and MyTimeToShineHello broke the news that Andy Muschietti would direct the upcoming Batman movie The Brave and the Bold, both of which were confirmed. And based on recent rumblings that the MCU would be bringing back its classic heroes, doing something big with the Hulk makes sense. I wish I were more excited at the prospect; the Hulk is (probably) my favorite Marvel hero, and I’ve wanted another solo Hulk movie since The Incredible Hulk. But the MCU has ruined the character, removing the dual personalities and combining them into some weird amalgam that acts more like Mark Ruffalo pontificating about nonsense between bong hits than either Bruce Banner or the Hulk. (I know Professor Hulk was in the comics; he worked better there than he does in the movies, and he didn’t work particularly well in the comics, either.) If they fix this and make the Hulk a character anyone would want to see again – and, you know, write and direct a good movie – I’ll be happy. But I don’t want two hours of Hipster Hulk.
