It plays like a combination of the 1st Zelda game and Dragon Quest. An over world map you can fight on, use your items, enter towns or caves. The level up system has some very Dragon Quest vibes, same with the shopping and using Inns in towns.
It’s been a good escape from the newer stuff. Getting lost in an NES game I’ve never played before has been fun thus far. It’s worth a look. Arcus does a great play through of it, and at the time, was also his first shot at the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlJm5k4EYbY
I wouldn’t know. I haven’t touched Nintendo since the Game Cube died. I didn’t like the direction of things with Wii and Wii U. I am not into gimmicks, I am into a preforming console. That being said, I may pick up a OLED model someday and catch up on all the Zelda games I’ve missed over the years. But ya, i’d say the OLED model for the better quality screen and since it also has a Ethernet port.

Hmm this isn’t easy.
10) Half-Life 2 (Damn it was the best FPS for all time for me, it’s not higher because after all the FPS games in the 90s i don’t play many anymore).
9) Neverwinter Night 1&2 (People shit on the 2nd but i like it more, what can i say i like Obsidian’s take on NWN and Kotor more than Bioware’s).
8) The Legend of Zelda Series (I know it should be higher but what can i say, i love RTS and RPGs more).
7) Command & Conquer series (Especially C&C 3, it was absolute peek C&C for me but i am looking forward to C&C 2 & Red Alert 2 remastered).
6) Metal Gear Solid 3 (God damn this game was so good, what do i say except It’s just so damn awesome).
5) Hearts of Iron 4 (since 2019 I’ve had this game and I’ve put in 3,916 hours…i know but playing through WW2 as Poland and spanking Russian’s & Germans is just too damn fun).
4) Kotor 1&2 (the 1st is fantastic but i like the 2nd more…i know people will say it’s blasphemy to even think that but Kreia as a mentor was fantastic and she is my favourite character in all of Star Wars and my character build works better in the 2nd).
3) The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind (I know, to hit rolls in first person is frustrating but if you know what your doing it’s fine to deal with, Agility and Fatugue are super important stats for landing hits).
2) Deus Ex 1 (This was almost my 1st pick, i like RPGs more but this was the first time i played what i thought was an FPS but turned out to be so much more, Infiltration, Epionage, Sabotage, Shooter, Stealth, Cyberpunk and a great story too).
1) Baldur’s Gate 1&2 (No CRPG has come close to touching these for me, despite so many “Spiritual successors”).
Elden Ring looks cool. Pity it is a Soulsverse game and far too hard for my tastes to ever want to put up with. I’d have loved to play many of those games, but the difficulty is a huge turn off. Not my thing.
Currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 with the next gen update. I started over from scratch after having played it on PS4 Pro, trophies don’t carry over. It is WAYYY better now, I am actually enjoying it now. Not a single crash or glitch so far. It looks WAY better too.
I got Horizon Forbidden West (Regalia edition) PS5, but the game needs some fixing before I’ll play more. I played for 10 min and already had a glitch. So, I’ll wait until things are ironed out more. A little disappointed it’s not running better even after the delay. I was really looking forward to this game. Ohh well. The Regalia edition is disappointing as well. The statue broke right out of the box and is a bit ridiculous to put together frankly. After paying 270 bucks for a broken statue and glitchy game. I am not very happy right now. I should have just got the Collectors edition without the statue, I really don’t want it put up anywhere. It’s ugly frankly. I wanted Aloy (like they did with the first game) In fact, I am pretty much done buying games at launch at this point. Been burned enough times now over the years.
I really have no games I am looking forward to now. Stray, yes the game about Cats. It looked interesting. Maybe Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga. Suicide Squad maybe, but I don’t like the Harley Quinn design. Gotham Knights looks cool, but it may be WOKE and I am NOT interested in that. Forspoken looks interesting, but also looks WOKE as hell. Chernoblite is coming to PS5.
Been thinking of finally getting a Nintendo console, the new Switch LED. I quit Nintendo when the Gamecube died because I had no interest in Wii or Wii U gimmick motion sensing crap with convoluted controllers. Frankly, the only Nintendo game I care to buy is Zelda and Metroid, so i’l have some catching up to do as I have no played Zelda since Wind Waker. But, the main reason I want a Switch is to get Japanese games UNCENSORED!!! They censor them on PS5, so I wont buy them.
In closing, I spend a lot of time playing Genshin Impact these days. Once I got a PS5 I was able to enjoy the game more than I tried to on PS4 Pro. I am no top tier hard mode player, I just enjoy the imagery and design. I have a lot unlocked and a few LVL 80 characters now. But, I also play on WL4 and refuse to do the next Ascension Quest because it forces the game to be harder, and I DONT want that. I really don’t like the forced difficulty in the game.
Uncharted, Bioshock, Tomb Raider, Animal Crossing, some Legend of Zelda games, Far Cry 2 are some examples of video games with females having a key role in development. If we branch out to anime we can add Fullmetal Alchemist, D.Gray-Man, Blie Exorcist, Magi, Noragami, Promised Neverland and even Demon Slayer’s illustrator is rumored to be a woman, but there is no confirmation as they stay out of public. I think those are pretty awesome pieces of work created by women.
And I still believe your suggestions would push society towards a non civilized patriarchy (as much as I hate that term). Who would even be the ones gatekeeping that there’s only a certain amount of female game developers? The government? What the fuck happened to equal opportunity and freedom of choosing your career path when the government is now regulating how much females can participate in a certain industry, that would be a huge step back for society. Just a terrible idea.
Nice list. Now compare the size of that list to all of the men who have contributed significantly to anime and gaming. Which list is bigger? I keep saying that these women you are spotlighting are the exceptions, not the norm.
@quickbeam1213 I think your whole message is full of shit. Yes males and females tend to think differently but it often is enhanced by their influence and how they grew up, it’s not like all men think this and all women think that. There are people like Neil Druckmann and Daniel Kibblesmith who have whack ideas even if they are men.
I 100% guarantee you that the only reason we have had some of the legendary franchises of the past is because men were calling the shots.

N64 and Gamecube for me. My black metal band back in the 90’s used to play Goldeneye after band practice all the time. I got nearly 50 GC games, and still have them all, so played that console a lot.
After the GC died I quit Nintendo. I wasn’t interested in what the Wii was, or the Wii U. Not interested in motion gimmicks. I’ll get a Switch someday just to play the Zelda games I have missed, it’s a good thing I still haven’t got one since the new model came out. I really don’t care about any other games Nintendo puts out other than Zelda and Metroid, and the new Metroid looks to be unenjoyable with the difficulty level. I’ll wait for Metroid Prime 3….20 years from now when it finally comes out. I have zero interest in Mario Kart or Smash Bros, not my kind of games. I also prefer to play games alone for the most part, so not interested in all the party group stuff.
1) Horizon Forbidden West PS5. Already pre-ordered the over the top Regala Edition. Horizon Zero Dawn was one of my favorite PS4 games right next to Ghosts of Tsushima. Pretty much the only game I am actually “hyped” for if you could call it that.
2) Dying Light 2 PS5. Maybe. I have the first game.
3) Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 PS5. MAYBE. If it is indeed a Identity Politics ridden game I’ll pass. If it ever does come out that is.
4) Ghostwire: Tokyo PS5. Looks interesting, and well, it’s in Tokyo so that has me already.
5) Stray PS5. Ya, a game you play as a Cat (Neko), but it looks interesting. As a cat lover, well, that had me right there.
6) LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga PS5. I love the older SW Lego games.
7) Forspoken PS5. Could be good. It looks interesting.
I frankly am not hyped for much. I am a single player person now. I am utterly sick of competitive/multiplayer games and all the grind and monetization. Destiny 1 and 2 pretty much ruined me ever playing an game like that ever again. So, 75% of the gaming market doesn’t interest me. The Battle Royale type games can honestly f**k off. Those kind of games are utter trash imo. I don’t do the Among Us, PUBG, Overwatch, or Fortnite stuff either. Not interested. Though I may get Overwatch 2 simply because it has single player/co-op. I like the character designs and esthetic, just not the game since it is all online multiplayer garbage.
Not interested in Metroid Dread after my brother telling me about it’s difficulty level. I am a bit surprised they did that to a more popular franchise. Not interested in overly difficult games anymore. I also don’t own a Switch, because I quit Nintendo after the Gamecube died out. Wii, Wii U, wasn’t interested in them. The only interest I have in Nintendo is Zelda games, so when I do get a Switch maybe someday, I’ll have a few Zelda games to play. Maybe when Metroid Prime 3 actually comes out….
Not interested in Elder Scrolls 6, never much got into Skyrim even though I do own it for PS3. I also think the Fallout/Skyrim games are WAYYYY too big. Not that I don’t enjoy a longer open world game. But, those are just too big for my tastes anymore. Hell, I never even finished Fallout 3 it had so much content even after spending 200hrs in it. I have OTHER games to play.
Not interested in Elden Ring or any games from that dev.
Not interested in Tiny Tina Wonderlands because Borderlands 3 was such a horrible game I will never buy a Gearbox game again. I loved BL 1 and 2, But 3 was just horrible. A complete mess.
I honestly spend a lot of time playing Renpy games these days, for those who know what those are.
Someone said in comments that Ryan was in the Navy. Didn’t know that. It’s always cool to follow someone for like a year and find out something new about them. Also, whether it’s Mario or Zelda, it’s truly impressive that these characters have endured since almost the beginning of video games, or at least, home video game systems.
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Super Metroid
3. The Legend of Zelda – A Link to the Past
4. Mega Man X
5. Donkey Kong Country 2
6. Super Mario World
7. Trials of Mana (Japan only but I played it on emulator back in the day)
8. Final Fantasy VI
9. Yoshi’s Island
10. Street Fighter II Turbo
SNES is the GOAT console!
Amen. Only the PS2 ever came close to eclipsing it.
Take a look at this E3 video from 2001.
Keep in mind that Samus had only 3 games with no Metroid Prime yet or Zero Suit yet. More fanfare than even the Zelda characters.
Favourite switch games this will be a long list.
This is all over the place.
Yeah, put me in the camp I do not care if I EVER play FFVII Remake. It’s not Final Fantasy VII. It’s a completely different beast. FFXIII took 3 tries to make a story that even made some sense. XV had some emotion in it, I will admit the ending got to me a bit, but in hindsight is dumb as fuck and that is ALL it offered. The button mashing action combat sucks, and I hate it in Final Fantasy. It’s fine for a game like Darksiders or Zelda, but I got to Final Fantasy for Final Fantasy! I don’t play Mega Man to get a game like Doom. Just saying.
There was a time when I wanted a remake. After seeing what they did to Final Fantasy VII, I absolutely HATE what they did to it. I enjoy FF7 because I can just chill and play at my pace. No button mashing. No frantic action. And it’s a complete game. I would have been content with the entire game just using updated graphics. Maybe make the world sprites and battle sprites the same. Remix the music. CHANGE NOTHING ELSE. That is all I ever asked for. I knew the day the trailer launched that this remake was something I wasn’t going to want.
All the spin offs of FF7 were cute at first, but in the 2000’s Square-Enix changed. Everything has become stagnant or forced. The add-ons to the story are just dumb. Advent Children was good. They made a “complete” edition that was somehow inferior. Crisis Core was meh. Dirge of Cerberus was meh. Everything post FF9 has the same damn art style.
And this is something that killed my enjoyment of FF7 for the future no mater which version I play. Once I realized this, I can’t un-realize it. It’s always in the back of my mind. In it’s absolute purest form, FF7 is about playing as eco-terrorists in a self righteous politically charged narrative. It really kills my enjoyment. I can’t STAND that shit in my entertainment. It really killed it for me.
Back in the 90’s we had things like Xenogears, Brave Fencer Musashi, Final Fantasy Tactics… Some diversity in style. Every Final Fantasy was DIFFERENT. I lost so much respect for Square in the last decade. While not entirely accurate, everything Square nowadays just looks the same to me.
Everything REAL Final Fantasy, not this online garbage that shouldn’t be a numbered entry, post FFXII has just been bad. I have zero interest in XVI. XV was the last straw.
I look forward to being able to repeat that opinion when part 2 comes out in 2029.
Rant over.
