Yet another name may shortly be attached to Star Wars, as Deadline reports Shawn Levy is in talks to direct a film in the franchise. If the parties can reach a deal, Levy will helm a Lucasfilm project after Deadpool 3 and Stranger Things season 5.
I don’t know much about Levy and have nothing for or against him. However, I find it funny how Lucasfilm is always scrambling to attach names to projects before we know what the projects are. Rather than having a plan and finding someone for the job, they find a person and seemingly just tell them to make Star Wars. Of course, I don’t claim to be an expert in the negotiations behind these films. Maybe behind the scenes it’s not all as disorganized as it seems. But as a bystander who likes Star Wars, it looks like a big, embarrassing mess.
But what do you think? Talk to us in the comments!
I like The Mandalorian, but overall I agree with you. There’s no real excuse for this mixed-bag output. Disney has all the money and resources a studio could hope for.
Agree. When it comes to live action, aside from Andor, the recent material has been poor for quite some time. It’s frustrating because we see little glimmers of potential greatness from things like Tales Of The Jedi, which was in animation form. I know some fans liked Mandalorian material, but I was not one of them. There were a few interesting things, but overall, I did not care much for it. What is upsetting is how good those brief trailers were for KOTOR. The Old Republic “Sacrifice” trailer was actually one of the coolest SW things I’ve ever seen. I just think the commitment to excellence and quality needs to be there, or just wait for someone special with vision to come along, instead of forcing mass production of material.
