You read that right; Shrek 5 is on the way and has an official release date. The quintquel to Dreamworks’ 2001 animated sensation will hit theaters on July 1, 2026. Star players Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona), and Eddie Murphy (Donkey) are set to return. Check out the official Shrek Twitter account’s post here:

This is unnecessary, but at this point, I’m too burnt out to get mad at it. I’m much more bothered by Toy Story 5 because that series means more to me. I love Shrek 2, but I never felt much attachment to the other installments in the Shrek saga. I guess it’s good that the main actors are returning, and kids will probably like it. But it’s not needed, and longtime Shrek fans probably know that.
