Sega’s superfast mascot is making a big comeback as IGN has revealed the first poster for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. The film, based on the popular video game character, is directed by newcomer Jeff Fowler and produced by Deadpool’s Tim Miller, and releases on November 8, 2019. Starring Ben Schwarz, James Marsden, Neal McDonough and Jim Carrey, Sonic the Hedgehog finds Sonic on the run from the government, befriending a small-town sheriff, and, of course, battling arch-nemesis Dr. Robotnik. Check out the Sonic poster below…
It… looks like a Sonic poster. People the internet over seem to be freaking out about the Sonic poster, but I really don’t get it. “He has fur.” Yeah, but so what? Didn’t you always kind of figure he did? He’s a hedgehog, and hedgehogs have fur. “They changed his shoes.” They don’t look that different to me; they look like real-world sneaker versions of his shoes. “He isn’t wearing his white gloves.” Okay, I guess you got me there. “His thighs are too big.” I think my brain officially hurts. Moreover, people are complaining about his eyes, which you can’t even see in the Sonic poster. Maybe I’m not a big enough Sonic fan (I played the original game back when I had a Sega Genesis and liked it, but don’t have much desire to play it again). Maybe I’ve seen so many terrible adaptations that this one doesn’t ruffle my feathers. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t anticipating this movie in the first place. Whatever the reason, the Sonic poster looks fine to me, and while I don’t think the film will be any good, it’s not because of this image.
