Gamers can head up to South Park again soon. Today, THQ Nordic released a trailer for the upcoming video game South Park: Snow Day. Following their previous games set in Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s animated world, South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole, as well as a mobile game called South Park: Phone Destroyer, South Park: Snow Day finds the boys and their friends playing out another fantasy role-playing scenario while off from school due to a blizzard. Players will once again take on the role of the New Kid, but this time, you can play with up to four friends or use a “matchmaking” feature that can team you up with three other solo players. South Park: Snow Day will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. There’s no release date yet, but you can pre-order the game now. The bad news is, this is another reminder that I’m eventually going to have to get a PlayStation 5 because the newer games aren’t being made for the 4 anymore. But it’s a convincing argument because I love these THQ Nordic South Park games (aside from Phone Destroyer; I don’t play mobile games). The Stick of Truth was fantastic, and I’ve played through it multiple times. The Fractured But Whole took some time to adjust to, but once I understood the gameplay, it was a lot of fun. I’m glad they’re going to keep making these games, and I love the idea of centering the action around a snow day; it makes for some interesting new environments and new types of enemies (even if they’re just kids playing dress-up), and based on the trailer, they’ll be able to show the difference in reactions kids and adults have to a blizzard. My biggest concern with this one is the solo play, specifically if the rest of your squad is made up of established South Park characters or other new kids. The fun of the first two games was getting to play with your favorite South Park kids, and I don’t want to lose that. The trailer doesn’t make it clear, nor does the game’s official website. My fingers are crossed because I love these games and hope the series continues to be fun (despite it making me upgrade my gaming system).
I remember the fiasco with The Stick of Truth; they even mocked in an episode of the show, which was hilarious.
Hell yeah, this looks great. I can’t wait! :D
The whole “give us money now, but we have no idea when we’ll fulfil our end of the bargain” is cheeky as fuck though and a perfect example of how rotten the games industry has become…and how daft people are with their money.
