SPECIAL LOOK: Andor Season 2 (2025)

“The insurgents have weapons at this point.” “We're counting on it.”

On Wednesday, March 5th, Disney and Lucasfilm released a special look at Andor season 2. Despite containing interviews and behind-the-scenes material, it’s more exciting and satisfying than the season’s actual trailer. Diego Luna, Tony Gilroy, Adria Arjona, and others discuss where the characters are, the connections to Rogue One and Andor’s first season, and more. We’re treated to new footage and some shots that made it into the teaser, like Mon Mothma at some sort of party, likely her daughter’s arranged wedding. Check out the latest (and greatest) look at the season here:

This clip is awesome. I enjoyed the teaser they put out before, and it didn’t make me less excited, but this is more like what I expected. That teaser felt generic and action-heavy, with a weird song choice. I think the teaser was meant to attract more of the general audience who evidently didn’t initially watch the first season of Andor. This clip is more in line with the expectations set by season 1, and I’m far more interested in the insights of Gilroy and the cast than quick edits and catchy pop songs.

Andor Special Look, Andor

They really lean into what I can only assume is the Ghorman massacre, the inciting incident that causes Mon Mothma to leave the Senate. The opening dialogue in this clip begging for help and the ensuing violence echo events alluded to in Rebels. This will all be more in-depth and much darker here. They also show Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), the main villain from Rogue One, quite a bit. I don’t like Rogue One much, but he is integral to its story, so it makes sense to include him here. I plan to go back and watch the movie again after Andor ends to see if I feel differently because the show has so much of the depth the film lacked. Mendelsohn is a good actor, and I certainly don’t have any issues with him, and I assume his presence will excite people who did like Rogue One. We also get several shots of K2 droids, likely hinting that we will see K-2SO as well.

What surprised me is that they interviewed Adria Arjona, who plays Bix Caleen, in this. We also see B2EMO, Cassian’s family droid. Given how season 1 ended, I figured we weren’t seeing these guys again. But Bix is probably in this, or they wouldn’t drag her back out just for a small interview excerpt, right? Depending on how they play it, this could undo the relative happy ending those characters got, and that worries me. This isn’t a happy story for Cassian, Luthen, and most of this show’s main characters. But it was nice to see Cassian help his friends escape. He’s willing to tarnish his humanity and sacrifice his own life, but not the people he cares about. Tony Gilroy and Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma) had the most interesting things to say in the clip. Gilroy discusses the budding rebellions across the galaxy, and O’Reilly mentions season 1 laying the track for the juggernaut. I don’t really have anything to add to that; it’s just so exciting. I wish we did get 5 seasons, and I wish Disney+ weren’t dropping this whole season over the course of a single month. But I’m so excited.

The tone and overall worlds look to this show is really good. Just not into the story that much and it’s missing jedi and sith, which is too bad because I like how it looks. Ahsoka had it’s moments in terms of how the worlds looked. I had the same issues in that it’s missing the overall extra spark magic that it takes to really captivate.

I saw kids viewing Moana and Avatar the other day, so that’s what they were watching. I don’t know if they watch Star Wars stuff.
