Sony is getting ready to say, “What’s up, danger?” once again. Deadline reports that the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel has been dated for an April 22, 2022 release. Only producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to return for the sequel to the Oscar-winning film thus far, but that’s more than enough to get excited about. For the last year, we heard whispers of Sony’s plans for their animated Spider-Man universe, whether it was a Spider-Gwen spinoff or this sequel, which was rumored to focus on the burgeoning love story between Miles and Gwen.
When it was first announced, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was looked at by many with a jaundiced eye. However, now that audiences have had a chance to see it, Spider-Verse is considered one of the best Spider-Man films yet made regardless of the company. It brought to cinemas a myriad of characters True Believers had never seen on film before, from Spider-Gwen to Spider-Ham. In addition, we also got a version of Peter Parker that we had never seen before. It’s good to know that fans now know when the next chapter of the Spider-Verse is set to hit theaters. Here’s hoping we get more insight into the other Spidey animated films in the near future as Sony continues to lay down the groundwork leading towards their own Marvel ambitions.
