Stephanie Beatriz sat down for a recent interview with The Wrap, which was conducted before the actors’ and writers’ strikes began. Although she was mostly talking about her new Peacock show, Twisted Metal, she did discuss her Disney animated film Encanto. Check out her comments here:
“I would love to work with [Disney] again. That team on that film was so incredible to work with that. I think a lot of [Jared Bush and Byron Howard’s] time right now is being taken up by other stuff. I know Jared and I think Bryon too are working on the second Zootopia right now. But I would love to work with them again.”
“I go to the parks a lot and whenever people recognize me they ask about that too. So I know fans of the film are really, really eager to know if it’s gonna get a sequel, I would love to do that. I think there’s a ton of story to be told and there’s so many people that would love to see that, but I haven’t heard jack s–t.”
I’ve been wondering about this as well. It’s well known that Encanto underperformed at the box office, but unlike Disney’s other pandemic-era releases, it blew up on Tik Tok and Disney+. I don’t understand why they’ve been so quiet on the matter, but Bobs Chapek and Iger have both called Encanto a “franchise.” If they want to make a sequel, they can exploit the fans’ desire to know more about some of the Madrigal family members aside from Mirabel and Abuela.
But what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
