That Star Wars Girl Has C2E2 Press Pass Canceled

That Star Wars Girl needs to get a more diverse audience, according to the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. The YouTuber, whose name is Anna, applied for a press pass to the convention, more managably called C2E2. And she was approved… for a little while. C2E2 then labeled her previously approved press pass as “under review” before notifying her via email that it had been canceled. The official reason is that Anna and her audience are not “diverse enough.” You can see Anna’s recounting of the events in the X posts below:

Anna went into more detail as a guest on the Aussie Overlaw’d channel, where she revealed more official excuses for canceling her pass and why she believes her association with canceled comic book artists is the real reason (timestamped video courtesy of That Park Place):

It does sound like they were searching for excuses to cancel Anna’s press pass. How would her audience not be diverse enough for them? I’ll bet you anything, to choose an example, Black Girl Gamers would be readily afforded a press pass for their group (Anna says figures who post on social media usually count as press), and I’ll bet you the same amount Anna’s audience is more diverse than theirs. But, then, we know “diversity” doesn’t mean the dictionary definition of the word. And as Anna says in the video, she’s gotten press passes to much more prominent events, like the San Diego Comic-Con. Some little convention most people have never heard of has a problem with her that SDCC didn’t? But, of course, they were probably being pressured by cancel culture cultists, as Anna suggests, which is what happened to Ethan Van Sciver and the other indie creators with whom Anna is friends. I’ve seen this happen before, and a smaller con like this may not want to put up with the hassle these people create. That being said, you can tell by the questions they ask that there’s an agenda going on, and it’s easy to use questions like asking for a content creator’s audience demographics against them. This feels similar to what activist types tried to do to Gina Carano at the Vancouver Fan Expo, except for the happy ending.
