Hayao Miyazaki’s next film – which is rumored to be the famed director’s last – The Boy and the Heron, has a unique distinction in that Studio Ghibli has elected not to market it traditionally. The film won’t have trailers or other promotional materials. However, this Friday, they did release a “teaser” for the movie that more closely resembles a plot summary. You can watch (read) it here:
I’m looking forward to this movie a lot, and foregoing the typical marketing campaign has been effective at drumming up interest. However, I think anything by Miyazaki would have attracted a lot of attention regardless, especially since this may be his last film. I don’t feel strongly about this video, though, beyond feeling disappointed once I realized it was only text.
But what do you think? Sound off in the comments!
I heard this movie’s story was difficult for even Japanese people to understand. Many of my friends here in Japan informed me of that. I am curious to see how this movie does translated and brought to a wider audience.
