Nickelodeon has ordered a new 26-episode series called Avatar: Seven Havens, starring the Earth Kingdom-born Avatar after Korra. Right now, we don’t know the new Avatar’s name or the details of her heritage; we only know that she will be a female and have a twin she didn’t know about. Avatar: Seven Havens will be traditionally animated and was announced in honor of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s 20th anniversary. Nickelodeon’s press release for the show states that Seven Havens takes place in a world “shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”
Original Avatar and Korra creators Bryan Koneitzko and Michael Dante DiMartino also released a statement: “When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”
Avatar: Seven Havens will be comprised of two seasons, a 13-episode Book 1 and a 13-episode Book 2. The show’s cast is unknown as of yet, but DiMartino and Koneitzko are creating the series alongside executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. Seven Havens will be Avatar Studios’ first TV show, though they have also been working on a full-length animated feature about Aang. This movie hits theaters on January 30, 2026, and follows an adult Aang. Avatar Studios also has a line of books, comics, concerts, toys, and even a Roblox game to celebrate Avatar’s 20th anniversary.
It’s difficult to know what to make of this show with so little information. I’m a little surprised to hear of the inclusion of an Avatar with a twin, something people have been head-canoning for years. That doesn’t mean the show will be bad; it doesn’t mean anything, really. However, giving the hero a secret twin is giving me Acolyte vibes, especially if both twins are girls. But I’ll do my best not to carry that into watching this show. I’m cautiously excited about any Avatar content from Mike and Bryan. Legend of Korra wasn’t as good as Avatar: The Last Airbender to me, but I’ve only seen a couple of shows that I thought were that good. I don’t expect Seven Havens to be as consistent or impactful as Avatar; if it can reach the peaks of Korra’s better episodes (AKA most of Book 3), I’ll be more than happy.
The blurb referring to both twins’ “mysterious origins” has me a little nervous; the twin should be a regular person, with or without bending. If Raava, the Avatar Spirit, gets split into both siblings, that would be both ridiculous and way too much like The Acolyte. That probably seems like a strange thing to keep bringing up, especially since this isn’t a Star Wars show. And I hope I’m dead wrong, and my mind is only jumping to that because of how recent and awful it was. I will definitely watch Seven Havens and try to give it a fair shot. I did that much for Netflix’s Avatar; why wouldn’t I give the original creators that same courtesy?
But what do you think about Avatar: Seven Havens? Did you enjoy Legend of Korra or any of Avatar’s other offshoots? Sound off in the comments!
