It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Disney+, as Marvel has released a trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Written and directed by James Gunn, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is a TV special for Disney’s streaming service that was filmed during the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and stars the film’s main cast. Not much is known of the plot – outside of what’s revealed in the trailer – but it’s going to be a fun Christmas story featuring the Guardians. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will arrive on Disney+ on November 25, 2022 – the day after Thanksgiving – and will serve as the conclusion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. That looks like an absolute blast. I love Christmas, and I love Christmas movies and television, so involving the Guardians in a Christmas special is right up my alley. Unlike some of Marvel’s Disney+ output, it looks like no expense was spared for this one because those effects and images are stunning. I like how it ties into the ongoing story about Gamora’s return and subsequent disappearance, with the rest of the Guardians resolving to give Peter a Merry Christmas to cheer him up while he’s down. There are a lot of places it can go from that starting point, and we can glean a few from the trailer, like Nebula dismissing Christmas as trivial nonsense (somebody’s aching to catch the Christmas Spirit) and Drax and Mantis setting out to save Christmas. I do wish they’d kept the Kevin Bacon appearance a secret because it would have garnered a huge laugh. But I’m all in for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and given its release date, I think it’ll be the first Christmas thing I watch this year over Thanksgiving leftovers.
What did you think of the trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special? Will you be watching it this Christmas Season? Will Marvel Super Hero Adventures: Frost Fight get lost in the shuffle this year? (Of course not; double feature!)
