The Owl House Gets a Clip at NYCC

At the first and only NYCC panel for The Owl House (thanks to COVID), creator Dana Terrace, Alex Hirsch (King and Hooty), and several other actors teased the upcoming final season. Although Disney reduced the season order from a full 20 episodes to three 40-minute specials, Dana and the crew seem pretty excited about what’s in store. Check out the clips that were shown at NYCC here:

The first is a very simple clip, but I like it. Naturally, the witches are struggling to acclimate to life on Earth. Gus’s fascination with bubble wrap is endearing and very much in character, and you have to feel bad for Hunter. He doesn’t know how to express gratitude without prostrating himself like a serf. I think the girls’ battle with the alarm clock is a bit much, but that was surely intentional. Maybe it will play better in context.

I like the second one much more because it’s more serious and explores the trauma Luz and Hunter are experiencing. I also like that Camilla is slowly starting to understand what happened in the Demon Realm. She’s just a suburban mom; she didn’t ask for this, but she’s doing her best. It’s nice to see a parental figure that’s present, active, and supportive in a genre that often contains dead, deadbeat, or abusive parents.

I really wish we were getting an entire season, but I’m excited for these specials and will be watching them nonetheless. I don’t know how they’ll wrap this story up in roughly 120 minutes, but I have faith in Dana and her people.

What do you make of the clip? Are you excited for the season 3 specials? Talk to us in the comments!
