Thor: Love and Thunder Reshoots Underway

There’s more god butchering afoot for Marvel. Jeff Sneider of The Ankler reports that Thor: Love and Thunder has been undergoing reshoots in Manhattan Beach, California, for the past week. The reshoots involve Christian Bale, who plays the film’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher. The Ankler keeps its articles behind a paywall, but according to The Direct, these reshoots are why a trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder has yet to be released. Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder sees Thor replaced by Jane Foster, his former girlfriend, who finds herself worthy of wielding Mjolnir just as Thor becomes unworthy. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman return as Thor and Jane, respectively, along with whichever members of Thor’s supporting cast weren’t wiped out by Hela or Thanos. Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2022.

We can all recite this line by now, but reshoots are very common, especially on big-budget blockbuster movies, and virtually every MCU film has gone through them. What makes the Thor: Love and Thunder reshoots interesting is that they’re holding up the release of a trailer. This suggests that Marvel and/or Waititi is significantly altering the plot to such an extent that even a trailer wouldn’t make sense before the reshoots are completed. The involvement of Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher is indicative of this as well. Is Gorr’s backstory being changed? Is his evil plan being altered? Or could it just be that they want more of him? Christian Bale can play an excellent villain, something Marvel isn’t exactly filled to the brim with; maybe they want more shots of him wreaking havoc for the trailer. I think it’s safe to say everybody is worried about this one, what with a longstanding Marvel hero and founding Avenger literally being replaced – down to his name – by a woman (who will no doubt be heralded as “a better Thor than Thor”), but Christian Bale’s heavy isn’t the scary part.

What do you make of the Thor: Love and Thunder reshoots? Are you looking forward to the movie? Will Waititi’s joke-a-second style work in this one’s favor? Let us know in the comments, and stick around Geeks + Gamers for more Marvel news!

Honestly, the marking of this movie has been so woke that I don’t know what to think about it. Maybe it’s actually good news and they want more of a good story (granted, that’s super likely wishful thinking)?

My hopes aren’t all that high because I hate this Lady Thor nonsense, and I wasn’t crazy about Waititi’s approach to Thor in Raganrok. But I love Christian Bale, and I love Hemsworth’s Thor.

Meh. I’m only intrigued because the GOTG and Sif will be in it.

I wanted Thor’s next appearance to be Guardians 3, with him as a member. Title: The Asgardians of the Galaxy.

I couldn’t care less at this point. I like Christian Bale. He can act his ass off with nearly any role he’s given, so he could end up being the highlight of the film. That being said, I have zero interest in Thor: Love And Thunder (IMO it should be Thor: Gods Of Thunder and Beta Ray Bill should be appearing) given that this movie is clearly going to be eyeballs deep in woke identity politics. It is, dare I say it like Thanos… inevitable.

Yeah, I really hate the direction they’re going. 60 years of stories just from the comics and they’re going with stuff from the last few years that people hated.
