At this point it’s very much you stirring the pot and acting like a drama queen.

Through repeatedly asking you to qualify your statements without ever calling you a name or making counter accusations against you?

You effectively just ran into a room, pooped on the floor then turned around and demanded to know who soiled the floor as you find such an act being offensive.

Rant, rave, scream and toss around your dislike all you want.  No one really cares much about that act in and of itself.  But the whole doing that while entirely pretending you did no such thing is sophomoric at best.

No dude, and it’s taken a lot of restraint on my part not to escalate this conversation, but I had concerns I wanted to express that I didn’t want to be clouded by the usual internet beef, this bickering right now that we’re doing, is exactly the sort of tearing apart of this community that I was concerned about.

I’m not here to drag Geeks and Gamers through the mud, and arguing with their Mod on their forum is going to do just that. So I hope you can respect that I’m not wanting to throw down and have a pissing contest right now.

This is getting to be rediculous at this point. I’ll let you get the final word in, I just don’t even know wtf we’re bitching about any more, I really don’t. And I don’t know what more I can do to qualify my posts.

Barring any more developments in this scenario this is my last post. I felt like we wrapped it up quite well, if you want to go on your own personal tangents while representing this community as a mod, that’s totally up to you.

Overall I very much enjoyed having this discussion, and obviously I have no problem addressing criticisms of my argument at neckbeard length. But there comes a point where trying to be cordial and address all criticisms just ends up being a pointless exercise, and we breached that threshold long ago.

      Peace!

All I have asked are very specific questions several times and you have evaded those each time misdirecting to impugning my character.  You have laid many personal charges against Eric July and his Company and you have done so with no evidence nor explanation of how you might be close enough to the situation to even know those things to be able to form a proper opinion.

If you just dislike Rippa and or his company from afar, well fine.  No harm in that, we all have opinions.

But accusing people of things and acting shocked and offended when folks ask you to explain yourself is intellectual cowardice.

This sounds like the typical talking point from an Ethan Van Scivet fan.

First off, Eric has proven himself to be an amazing businessman. He’s brought a new level of excitement to a shrinking American comics market. He’s doing thing in under two years that EVS should’ve been able to pull off awhile ago. His expansion, talent acquisition, and foresight has been nothing short of impressive.

Has everything been perfect? Or course not. The Yaira trailer had it’s flaws, but he’s at least trying and willing to give things a shot and refine himself and learn.

Isom 1 released to massive reception, some had criticisms, and Isom 2 was an improvement from the first. Alphacore is nothing short of amazing with solid writing from a legend in Chuck Dixon, and the best art of the three releases. Yaira art looks fantastic, and the Soska Sisters have been nothing but gracious ambassadors.

There’s nothing wrong with the Fellowship supporting each other in their endeavors. If they have criticism to offer, there’s no reason it needs to be public and give drama farmers like the EVS’s and the Dick Masterson’s of the world new content.

Eric is innovative, ambitious, ND the Rippaverse came at a perfect time. With all fue respect, your post is entirely asinine.

For years now this scene has mocked a group of nepotistic elites, high in their tower, not allowing mockery or criticism, blind to the poor quality of the work they produce, while milking money out of super fans and living in their little bubble where they enjoy a privildged life thinking they’re hot shit while never having paid their dues to develop talent, grifting off the stature of their friends to insert themselves into entertainment.

Kara Lynn is chill. But Rippaverse is run by a bunch of Karens, and headed by a Kathleen.

Had a wonderful day engaging with some Rippa stans on twitter. What a bunch of fucking low lifes you stans are.

So just to be straight up, Eric July got this goofball arrested over harassment? I say this because only if there were existing court orders would the police overreact like this. The guy was following orders outside. Rippa really showing his true colors here and willingness to exploit the legal system. Fucking shameful.

Then you shit heads have the audacity to laugh and celebrate an innocent man being locked up over a harrasment call from a bunch of fucking Karens?

This is escalating VERY quickly, it’s gone from a silly situation and now calls into question what little respect anyone had for this scene.

You Rippa stans need to look in the mirror. Being a bunch of hall monitor fucking narks that call the cops at the slightest provocation and whoop and scream for joy when a man is arrested and life is destroyed is a TERRIBLE fucking look.

Probably not even worth the effort posting here, this scene isn’t what I thought it was. What a bunch of fucking embarrassing cringe and grifting this all turned out to be. Thought we were better than this.

Not condoning this goofball’s toxic actions, but he has a right to be a goofball moron, just as you guys have the right to be goofball morons supporting this Rippaverse trash, it’s a free country. Shameful to see you guys celebrating this excessive use of authority. If we’ve learned anything in the past couple decades, it’s when cringe lords get the slightest bit of power they turn everything to shit.

Wherever you stand on Rippaverse, you can’t deny the dividing affect this entire venture/ grift has had on this “fandom”. I don’t even know who we are any more. We’ve been calling this for MONTHS now, letting Eric poison the minds of his rabid fandom has ruined this fucking scene. Hope the $$$ was worth it.

We’re a cringe cancel cult now. Shame on you fascist Rippastan manchildren.

In another reality, it’s too bad you could not have gone to the MeetUp with a Big Screen attached to a computer and have controllers, so the fans could play SeaCrit. https://illtemperedtuna.itch.io/the-seacrit-fish-game Would have been nice to see, but the others might have called that selling out.
          The event looked good.
I’ve enjoyed the writing, critique and feedback on here, but that guy who showed up, no one is going to see things his way. It’s not like city hall where you get an allotted time of free speech. It was a private event for fans. Also, it’s not like it was mandatory. In fact, Gary emphasizes that people RSVP, so a lot of effort on all sides is made to do these things. It’s how Jermy started out, by throwing video game events. Gives the fandom an excuse to gather in fellowship. Others are not doing it.
It’s clear you have a ton of skills and knowledge. Appreciate the heads up on the music app.

          #319670

@comicsgate Holy shit dude, thanks so much for the shout out on SeaCrit! I’ve never had anyone mention my project anywhere, this is a huge first for me. Anyway, to the subject at hand:

I’ve had time to sleep on this. Twitter should be outlawed or force people to be anonymous because this isn’t how we were meant to engage with each other. It’s literally a rage bate farm designed to amplify and condition people to be total fucktards to one another for engagement. We’re kinda like those chihuahuas that bark and snarl at each other while the leash is attached of the online divider, but the moment the leash breaks both dogs tone down the fronting and get back to being civil. Something about online discourse and tweets just makes all altercations spiral out of control.

It’s easy to be wishy washy in these threads because it’s so easy to get riled up one way or another these days depending on which youtube video or tweet you most recently engaged. And to be fair, we’re neckbeards who gets riled up about shit easily. That’s what draws us to these spheres, we’re passionate about nerdome. We should try to keep that in mind when shit blows up.

Maybe Riley and Eric could find common ground over shared passions. Like holy shit, we’re all comic book nerds, why the fuck are we stabbing each other in the back over some damned comic books?

Money, fame, clout, pride, tribalism, empire building. It’s simultaneously so simple and complex at the same time, which is what makes it so interesting!

And yeah it’s easy for me, or anyone else on the sideline who wants to paint this as a huge L for the fellowship for whatever reason ranging from clout to outright trolling to be like, look at Riley, he’s harmless, he’s a goofball!

I can imagine he might have said some heavy, aggressive, threatening shit. I can also see why he would say those things though, it takes two to tango. Eric is not without blame here for being an over aggress, agitating asshole that will always escalate the transgressions. That’s how these silly squables spiral out of control. It starts inane then hot heads just escalte things ad nausium.

Eric fuels these fires and says his own aggressive inflammatory BS. This continuing deterioration of fan unity is exactly what this thread foretold when I made it, the dangers of the rising group of Rippa stans and the toxic environment that was being fostered within this fandom mixed with the moral ramifications of farming the fans of their money while ignoring the elephants in the room. And now things are starting to get pretty fucking toxic, and it’s not going to get better any time soon.

It kinda makes sense now why Disney, Nintendo, and other large operations operate as they do. Closed doors, sickeningly sweet promo materials. Strict rules where you keep shit behind closed doors and don’t engage customers with our bullshit to keep the brand clean and stop us dumb monkeys from letting our stupid dissonances cloud our judgements and cause these tribal wars. It just spirals out of control, gets in the way of doing our craft as we become obsessed with internal politics and choose sides.

Ok, wanted to address the pertinent stuff first, but it’s so cool to see you’re aware of my game project! I don’t want to be “that guy” that’s always posting my shit and ankle bite and try to ride coattails, but yeah, it is a dream of mind that some day SeaCrit becomes decent enough to show to people and working with Geeks and Gamers would be rad, that’s actually why I made this account some time ago. I’ve got a little ways to go still, but I will absolutely be trying to get my project out there in the future, I just don’t think it’s quite there yet.

This industry fucking sucks and I don’t want to work with those shitty woke publishers. It’s a weird time to be an indie dev, for now I’m just keeping my head down and trying to make the project not suck ass, I think i’m getting close, it’s what I’m doing when i’m not neckbearding out here and on twitter.

Anyway, know that I’m getting REALLY close to the point that I want to make a thread here and turn all the detractors into potential testers who can give raw, hate fueled feedback on my project. It’s like EVS says, some of the best critics are people who hate your guts, because they’re not going to sugarcoat SHIT. I think the game is actually kicking ass, and if it sucks, I need to know that so I can stop wasting my life working on some stupid project chasing waterfalls.

Anyway, I feel like i’m turning into “That guy” already blathering about my silly project in this thread. But SOON, I do plan on making a post here and maybe getting some feedback from you guys on it. And I thought it would also be cool if I made some videos where I incorporate feedback and you guys could see how games are actually made directly based on the feedback I get here. Lots of people wonder, “HOW HARD IS IT TO JUST CHANGE A SINGLE DAMAGE # and fix this broken item!?” and truth be told it literally just takes 2 seconds. But there’s a lot of other stuff that you think would only take 3 minutes that actually takes weeks. Gamedev is weird. Gamedev is also super boring, so it might be a waste of time.

You mentioned playing SeaCrit on a big screen at a meetup, but I think where it really shines is playing it on web right on a phone! Iphone is a little wonky but it runs pretty well on android. No install required you just go to the website and click.

Anyway, yeah, being an indie developer myself which has made the whole rippaverse saga of huge interest to me, and in a way, I do feel invested in this scene because at some point I do want to try to find customers and I do want to try to grift and shill my own project to this scene. So it does frustrate me as a creator myself to see things handled poorly and to see good faith burned and various bridges burned when there is so much potential to GROW and FOSTER a vibrant community of creators and fans getting quality products in a welcoming and positive environment, which is maybe why i’ve neckbearded out too hard on it over the months. This is how I get over my burnout, I bitch and moan about comic books that I don’t even read.

          Life is strange.

Again, Comicsgate so fucking cool and surreal to see someone posting my project out in the wild with such kind words, THANKS SO MUCH! I like to think i’m starting to get kind of OK at this game making stuff. I’m shouting you out in my next blog post for the project if you happen to follow me there.

          #319691

Gave Eric the benefit of the doubt, but as more info comes to light this is looking HORRENDOUS for this scene.

I thought maybe this all stemmed from credible threats of violence. Maybe Riley was sending pics of weapons, or more aggressive threats that could be construed as actual wants to cause harm.

This dumb goofball literally only threatedned to shave Erics shoulder hair and used a set of oversized scissors.

I’m sorry guys, this is absolutely fucking stupid, and you should all be ashamed of being involved in this whole fucking weak ass cowering to authority.

All these years talking about Kathleen Kennedy’s grift, her bubble, her high in her tower bullshit and manipulations to get what she wanted.

This Rippaverse sphere is actually worse. This has reached levels of abject stupidity.

How fucking weak is this scene? Can’t even take a fucking joke. Calls the cops on, and attempts to ruin the life of a goober fellow comic fan like Riley.

Shameful. This is not going to go well, and it’s legit deserved.

I respect Eric wanting to be great, do something great, and cultivate a fun space for you guys. But acting so hostile and spreading his petulance has been an absolute fucking disaster. What a joke this all turned into.

If there were ONE video of Eric attempting to break bread with Riley this would be so different, or anyone for that matter. But Eric has exposed himself as being hate filled and petty. He’s also a compulsive liar, he either lies about being feeling threatened to police or that he’s a tough guy to his fans, because these “threats” are not substantial, and Eric went out of his way to foster Riley’s ire.

Eric doesn’t try to mend bridges, doesn’t try to help others, the dude is singularly focused on building his empire for himself and views all others outside his personal circle as enemies. I don’t enjoy typing this shit, the drama is fun, but I honestly miss how this scene used to be when there was “room for everyone in this space”. This new aura of gatekeeping, hostility, and chest beating has really ruined this scene, and taken a lot of fun out of everything.

There are elephants in the room.

It didn’t have to be like this, Rippaverse would have been FAR more successful had Eric had just a bit more humility and this scene would have been far more fun and vibrant and unified.

This thread will continue to be seen as an attack and a threat to the Rippaverse and that is exactly why Ripparvse failed to become the wonderous success for us all to be proud of that it could have been.

There’s a lot to like about Eric, espeically if you’re in his circle. His drive and charisma could have been such a positive in this sphere, but instead it has only brought the worst out of this scene. It’s made a mockery of the call for better entertainment, it has made a mockery of the notion we are accepting and open to all creators and views, and it has destroyed the notion that this scene respects its fans and the medium of comics. The Rippaverse just ain’t it.

At least this is entertaining as all hell! This whole thing plays out like a Better Call Saul episode. Was Nick Rekieta some sort of sleazy mastermind here? Did they set this whole fiasco to get Eric to expose himself? I swear this feels like something out of a Hollywood TV show (I don’t mean that as a slight, better call saul was the shit).

          #319693

Hope you keep writing from the heart, because I do enjoy reading you. There are cases to be made against EJ, but I’ve not heard them clear and clean. Maybe Ethan or Vito is articulating it, or Rekieta, but I have yet to hear any good points. Check that, I have heard the gatekeeping remark, but with this guy, what was there to gatekeep? Is he an artist or writer? I don’t even know.

One thing you must know is that Riley or Clippa or whatever his name is, his own fans said he’s SOL. The people he approached at the event were my kind of people, super polite, but his fans were laughing at how everyone wanted to get away from Riley. Another comment on Riley’s own stream video said that from testimony that Riley himself gave to the cops is enough evidence for a stalking charge.

          restrainingorder

I’m only telling you what I read on Riley’s video and not even defending July, but I thought the event looked really well done and that’s one thing GnG does super well is event planning. It’s super impressive. In addition to the stalking evidence Riley provided to the police, Eric has a screenshot of some kind of bizarre grave desecration that Clippa did that was totally creepy, like horror movie level. All of this is documented online, for crying out loud. It’s almost ironclad and indefensible.

Btw, I am totally neutral on Rippaverse. I don’t know Eric aside from a few good videos a while back that touched a political nerve and that’s it. I admire anyone who tries to do their own comics.  I do see where the critics are coming from, but they are not very good at explaining their issues with July yet. OK, last thing, but after the stuff Gary Nerdrotic has gone through, he cuts negative people out right away and when you are out, I think that’s about it. Guess what? I am actually used to that kind of treatment. Some fan made a video saying that Gary actually went up to everyone standing in line to greet them, so instead of them lining up for him, he was lining up for them. Dude did jail time and if you get on the wrong side of someone like that, who gives plenty of slack, then that’s where the relationship ends.

I do not recommend this book, but am very glad that I grew up before social media really took off. It has warped people’s minds and it is changing the neuroplasticity of their brains and bio-chemically affecting their neuro-pathways with dopamine. Some people get high off trolling and take it too far. Unfortunately, I think Clippa needs professional help at this point. The whole stream kind of reminded me of Rick Moranis from Ghostbusters being attacked by demon dogs on the outside, looking in on the other half at a fine restaurant.

He should have just chilled out and played SeaCrit, but maybe his stunts are enough for some internet fame.   https://illtemperedtuna.itch.io/the-seacrit-fish-game

Someone also said EJ already had a restraining order?

It’s just the general temperament Rippa has, the company he keeps, and noticing that everyone has to walk on egg shells around him. Eric is not bringing on board and allying with creative powerhouses and hard working visionaries. He’s bringing on petty subversives who will ally with his underhanded tactics of business. Seeing him utilize people like TheQuartering and Yellow Flash to attack his “enemy” EVS and attempt to cancel him. These dudes have shown their true colors as well, willing to destroy others for the $$$.

Time and again I was on Eric’s side, only to find things were overblown or outright lies. It’s all about cognitive dissonance. Eric thinks he’s in the right, just like Kathleen Kennedy does. Just like anyone with lots of money and power thinks. We’re all the good guy in our own stories, but I’m not seeing any good come out of Rippaverse, it’s quite the contrary.

We like our friends, we like the people that make fun content we consume. We WANT to believe they are being honest and have level headed takes on things.

But I can’t shake this feeling that everrything that’s gone down in this sphere is very whisper networkish, tied to the same sorts of lies and decpetions that made movies, tv, and video games go woke.

You get this catty group of people who are incapable of making quality content, but they take over a scene and believe themselves to be entitled to all the fans and money and they get a taste of it, and their brains go corrupt and crazy. Then they spread lies among each other and create this vile narrative about others. That’s what I saw happen to EVS, that’s what I saw happen to Riley here. People will believe what they want to believe, and you get a big group of people who all believe in Rippaverse, and are enjoying the money and fame, and just a few bad apples seeding deceit will create a blood crazed cult over time. That’s exactly what’s happened as the whoops and cries for joy happened as Riley was thrown in the squad car.

Do I think RIley and EVS are perfect darlings? No, not even close.

But only one side is weaponizing their fans, spreading vile lies and sowing deciept in the arena of public opinion.

I DO NOT stand for that shit, hence this thread.

Ok, to be fair, EVS does a trashcast shitting on Eric every week. That’s not subersive, that’s straight up beefing, I respect that. The difference between Eric and EVS is any day of the week EVS would drive across the country for a chance to debate Eric man to man. Same goes for YellowFlash, same goes for The Quartering. Why is that, why is EVS rarin’ to debate and call these fuckers out? Because they’re subversives who rely on the whisper networks and well of cult support to support all the lies.  Eric uses the allure of money to get people to stab Ethan in the back. That’s some really fucked up shit, and I fear for an industry rooted in such vile behavior.

I don’t want woke Hollywood 2.0 with a new cabal of elite shit heads above criticism as they pump out garbage and AstroTurf their bullshit empires.

I really appreciate you linking the game again Comicsgate! But I don’t really think this thread is good for that, as everyone here hates my guts, haha. What did you think of the project so far? Any specific feedback? You can DM me if you want.

          #319706

Pressed for time. I don’t think anyone hates your guts at all. The days of compliant conformity are over because all of us were raised in that, well behaved and betrayed by all institutions: corporate, academic, politcal, etc. Ethan actually gave good feedback on his last stream, according to the comments section, trying to help out Yaira.

You have skills. SeaCrit is fun. A little buggy, but I liked it. Wish more people would play it. I think they’d enjoy it. I’m not a gamer, so I got a kick out of it, swimming around and flipping and charging and bouncing above the water.

As for quality content, I am somewhat satisfied with them just ripping on Hollywood. There is no longer any escape from woke. I’ve tuned out all entertainment, but just got into a show about Exorcists called “Evil” with the actor who played Luke Cage. It’s a good show, but woke, as they demonized 8chan and there are a lot of very typical woke political messages in it, which is too bad. So, the fans have replaced Hollywood for me, but the gatekeeping comment bothers me a bit because we all know how the Hegelians like to lead all sides of movements and arguments. All you can do is kind of make your case about things. One thing is for sure, TV no longer dictates. In fact, I avoid it. Best advice ever from the failed Doctor Who was “Go Touch Grass,” so I am doing that. Legs getting stronger from running on the grass and the jab is poppin.

House of the Dragon Sunday! Still so surreal to see seacrit talked about in the wild. What did you find buggy about it? Was it the lag hiccups? That only happens on the web build and has to do with the way Unity loads sounds, it’s been driving me crazy for years now. Once you play a little bit the lag goes away, only happens when you first do something.

          Rippastan:

When will Eric change his slogan from “Be great” to the more accurate “Be petty”.

To qualify my post before I’m inevitably labeled a hate filled troll just trying to shit on July. There was honestly a time I thought July was going to be good for this scene. I thought he was going to do right by the fans and foster a positive energy here, to follow in the lineage of good comics and a positive community akin to what the others in this sphere have fostered.

There is a lot of good in this community of geeks and gamers, but Eric July has just come right out and said he’s going to play dirty, he’s going to exploit people around him to destroy and get rid of others, and that it’s justified.

What does he bring to this sphere? Greed. Spite. Underhandedness. Petulance. Between Mr. July and you Rippastans you feed off each others negative energies and this get worse week by week.

Oh well, it is what it is at this point. We’ve made appeals for things to get better, we’ve wanted to see better from the Rippaverse, but at this point, it has shown us its true colors. Green and Yellow.
