what anime with not-so-great fandoms have ruined your enjoyment from watching them? for me it was MHA

    #181447

MHA has a lot of  13 year old twitter girls trying to cancel everything, including the writer of MHA himself. Such weird behaviour

    #181456

Good point about My Hero Academkia having a crappy fandom with all shipping, cancelling and making Horikoshi-sensei bend the knee, destroying MHA Mangas and throwing them in the trash although I wouldn’t these people fans. But pests within the MHA Fandom. As a My Hero Academia Fan, I would like to apologize for fandom not letting you enjoy MHA although I do not represent the fandom but still I’m a fan of My Hero Academia and I’m still sorry for the fandoms’ immature behavior.

I haven’t paid attention to anime fandoms since Naruto and all the crazy shipping nonesense that made it unbearable. Even when it was official that Naruto and Hinata were locked in, the Naruto Sakura fanboys would not give up and just made it all even worse.

And I was a Naruto Sakura hopeful (but not engaged in the fandom), but Kishimoto Masashi did all I asked him to in order to sell me on Naruto and Hinata…and he did with Naruto: The Last, so I completely gave up on that pairing.

Bottom line, anime fandoms are sewers because of shipping. Yeah, if you are deep into a series, and a protagonist doesn’t have a clearly defined singular love interest and has a pool of potentionals to choose from, we all want what we like…..but the eventual shipping debates are purely sickening.

Definitely MHA, that’s the 1st one that comes to mind, and I’m not even a fan. I guess every fandom with Reylo like shippers is pretty bad, I hate shipping, I don’t do that. The DBZ and Fist of the North Star fandoms don’t really have such a problem.

      #181473

My definition stands, especially with DBZ as an example. Everyone is married or has a girlfriend, so no opportunity for poisonous shipping.

Naruto fandom. Easily. InuYasha fandom comes pretty close, but nothing matches the utter toxicity of how complete egomaniacs will take a dump on characters and their fans if they feel their vision of the story is threatened. I knew plenty of casual Naruto fans who tuned out because they were put off by all of it.

I was also leaning towards Naruto and Sakura, but I was prepared for Naruto and Hinata being the endgame… Only I wasn’t selled on it at all. The Last Disappointment was awful. Of the thousand ways you could have Naruto return Hinata’s feelings, it did so in the worst possible way. It reduced everyone into unrecognizable vessels of themselves just to force this pairing in a ham-fisted shoujo movie: It was like the Naruto cast had been murdered and some zombies from another series were wearing their skins. The film should’ve been one last adventure with Team 7 and seeing Naruto become Hokage by the end, with the love triangle being a sub-plot. Have a different villain all-together and forget all that garbage with the “Byakugan Princess” (the villain could be another fucking Uchiha for all I care, just as long as it’s not that God damned moon prince). It’s the film the Naruto shipping fandom deserves.

Man, fucking this. Kishimoto should’ve just made a decision early on and committed to it. But he just winged it like he did with everything else and hoped it would all work out. The result is rocket-levels of fan dumb.

Azumanga Daioh ran the gambit of most annoying fandoms with the constant flooding of badly made AMVs back in the day.

Followed by Neon Genesis Evangelion defenders who supported the show no matter how bad it got.

I’ll go by the replies one by one is best as I can

      SuperSoynic

Yeah my hero Academia fandom is mostly made up of younger audience that basically would they would pull the cancel culture gun trigger as quick as they can to get their point across

Yeah people speech at the whole Naruto/Sakura shipping because it apparently Cannon? Not too sure about that but correct me if I’m wrong on that

And yes any fandom that has a strong shipping culture is bound to wind up in problems that’s why shipping culture drags down a lot of series like Naruto Rwby MHA etc

      DrCCat

I’ve also heard how bad the Evangelion fans can get I don’t remember any drama from the Evangelion side of things on top of my head but maybe cuz I haven’t watched Evangelion in a long time….

The actual canonicity of it is debatable, but I thought the manga had kinda been building up to it in small ways over the course of the series: Sakura’s feelings towards Naruto had gradually changed, to the point she was clearly very fond of him, and Naruto’s feelings for her had certainly matured: He’d become much more considerate of how she felt, compared to how he was at the beginning.

It’s a somewhat familiar trope to have a girl who isn’t interested/dislikes the protagonist at the beginning, but falls in love with him over the course of the story. I don’t blame people for getting attached to the idea. It certainly would’ve better contributed to her growth if she got over Sasuke (which I am convinced is the main factor as to why she could be so hated by certain fans. Yet Kishimoto couldn’t take a fucking hint and proceeded to double down).

Problem is Kishimoto can be inconsistent as fuck and would change his mind on a whim. I remember the Naruto/Sakura shippers becoming quite emboldened after the Minato/Kushina flashback and there were some parallels to be made, plus Kushina’s dying words being “Find someone like me…!” Only years later Kishimoto would turn around and say that was all a red herring (which is just fucking awful storytelling because that’s not how red herrings are supposed to work). He should’ve just admitted his heart wasn’t in it in the end. In fact by the very end I think he was basically just trolling.

Naruto forever remains an example of why you shouldn’t have a romance subplot if you don’t know what the fuck you’re doing.

I was watching anime when it first came out. The fandoms were at each other’s throats.

When Shinji’s rant was revealed people agreed the show ended in a hot mess.

      #181577

all are bad they all get overly defensive and they all are in love with fictional women

      #181643

I started reading and watching Naruto before it ever came to the states. It was the last anime that I followed while current, and will be the last one I engage with that is THAT FREAKING LONG – nobody got time for that. That said, I remember all of the asinine shipping that was being flung around as well: Naruto x Sakura, Naruto x Sasuke (because there’s no such thing as the bond of friendship to loser shippers), etc. It is because of this series that I tuned out anime fandoms in general and tend to only engage with my own friend group because I find the mental midgetry to be absolutely unbearable. I still have a love for the show, and enjoy the hell out of the games as well, but have ZERO interest in Boruto.
