No, not the PS2 game. An all new Crash 4 seems to be on the way, quietly unannounced.
It seems Activision are banking on the success of the remakes and have gotten Toys for Bob (who made the Spyro remakes) to develop an all-new Crash platformer for the first time in… well, years. Judging from the title, it seems they’re going for something of a half-reboot by keeping the original trilogy as canon, but dismissing everything else that came afterwards. I’m honestly not that fussed: I loved the original trilogy as a kid (even if I wasn’t very good at it, back then), Wrath of Cortex was the only other game I played and people seem to have mixed feelings towards how the franchise progressed and eventually Crash faded from the public eye. The remakes brought a new fresh life to the series that was needed and it only makes sense to capitalize on that.
Toys for Bob did a great job with Spyro so I’m sure then can do Crash justice (never thought I’d live in an era where I’d be glad to see Naughty Dog no longer owning Crash…). I just feel way more reluctant forking my cash over to Activision.
I’m hyped and excited since Toys for Bob is making it… but at the same time… I’m just hoping Activision doesn’t find a way to f it up… poor Crash Team Racing… I was about to buy that game because I finally found a copy of it at my local game store then Activision ruined it with micro transactions… kinda hard to trust them after that… I ended up not buying the game and instead picked up Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection for my PS3… while I miss the old music, it felt nice to fight the DBZ villains as Goku again.
It looks neat. I prefer the N. Sanity art style, but this looks fine, too (and using Fatboy Slim was a nice touch).
But I’m not going to pre-order or buy a new copy, and will probably get it second-hand. Much as I’d like to support Toys for Bob, most of the money you spend doesn’t end up in the hands of those who put the actual work into the game. I can’t really give Activion-Blizzard any cash in good conscience.
I hate the AAA-industry, sometimes.
