The show is poorly written. The characters are bland (but I quite liked the Arthur character, the actor portraying him does a good job).
We have a nice line with the strong female leader saying a stunning and brave “How dare you !?” to an old, very patriarcal, white man. I found funny the following line by the strong female hero “I don’t want it.”, it reminded me the worst of Game of Thrones tv show.
King Uther and his court are dressed as Tudor Era nobles. It makes no sense as the show is supposed to happen several centuries before.
Black and Asian peeps everywhere (You’ll see more of them than red heads ! It’s the british isles ffs !). Arthur is black. Nowadays, making a caucasian person dress with a chinese outfit is cultural appropriation but pissing on british (celtic also) mythology and past is ok. I know it’s Fantasy but nonetheless…
Merlin is a drunk (why not) played by the Vikings Floki’s actor (I like him).
The enemies are fanatical christian males (those damn biggots of course ! Take that Odin :p). I guess they are being manipulated by Demons (I may be wrong).
Enjoy the naked male (but no female cleavage of course, no male gaze allowed !).
I’m done with the show. I’d rather watch good stuff like Better Call Saul, thank you very much Netflix.
To conclude : I watch almost everything related to the Arthurian legends and the only great thing our modern cinema and tv produced is 1981 Boorman’s Excalibur (I’ll add “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” from 1975). Not a single great thing in 40 years and that tv show won’t break the curse. That makes sense considering its title.
