@DragonLady if you think you can come in here to my super serious thread, derail it and make it 100% about boy bands…

Eh fuck it. Post your favorite boy bands everybody.

This is a boy band thread now.

Yeah I’m an insufferable neckbeard, that’s why I post here,

Not at all what I said. My words are clear and I stand by them.

I can’t think of a more fitting song for this thread!

Yeah i come in hard in these posts, I’ll be honest, I’m not clear on what your words were, they’re not clear to me at this point. I’m not trying to be an ass, i’m just not getting it. You quoted me calling this scene neckbeards and said i lacked total self awareness, so I assumed you were saying I was a neckbeard.

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe Jeremy said everything in a playful way and I’m the one at fault here and this thread is pure cringe. I dunno.

This I will say, there’s a lot of elephants in the room and they’re adding up and a lot of animosity in the air these days.

I dunno. Maybe i’m crazy, maybe i’m just being an insufferable ass.

      Great Shinedown song though.

@Vknid I think I get it now, and in blathering in this thread and being honest about rippa being faithful to his fans, and holding these guys to account, I kinda opened my eyes to what Rippaverse is first and foremost, and that’s a place where people can enjoy something with their community which is the same thing that attracts me to this sphere.

I probably watched a few too many trashcasts and it tainted my vision a bit.

This world is large and complex and there are so many facets to the interactions of business and the personalities in this sphere that it can become very easy for us to lose track of important things and lose sight of the human element.

Recently watched Mr. Metokur on this situation and it was hard to watch, but it shined a lot of light, especially with all the other nasty shit that’s been revealed about nick, it calls into question a lot of these attacks on Mr July.

It’s a hard time being a geek or gamer. Our financial systems are broken to shit. Our schools are pumping out communists, game companies and entertainment only hires communists, and what little refuge there is for us is being torn apart as we fight over the scraps and attack each other.

It’s been rough for everyone for so long that people are all on edge and it becomes this terrible downward spiral.

It kinda feels like this all ties together, all this decay in so many areas snowballs and it ends up with everyone at each others’ throats as people are pushed to having to engage in lowly acts just to survive.

It’s easy to say “there should be more principle in YouTube and in entertainment” when you’re in the outside, but the truth is, in this mad world, only the people willing to be two faced and play these games survive.

My bad for shitting on this sphere so damned hard in regards to Rippaverse, there’s a less toxic way to voice criticism. It’s easy to let little jabs spiral out of control and before you know it everyone brings the conversation down to the most vile, shit flinging level.

I don’t know if anyone from FNT or Geeks and Gamers reads these threads, but it feels like this community needs to have an adult conversation, and not the usual kind that chat has about X-ray girl (she’s married you assholes). It feels like we need to try to appeal to our better natures, and try to make this more than just neckbearding out and attacking people, trying to grift and make tons of money, trying to talk shit about stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s room for all that stuff, but a lot of the sentiment has been lost over the years the “may the wings of liberty never lose a feather”.

This scene needs a bit more aspirational positive elements, too much decay, too much negativity. It’s about finding the right balance of negativity, cuz don’t get me wrong, I know negativity and drama sells, I sure as shit tune in for that trash. But it’s reached a level of vileness and toxicity that it’s starting to drive people away.

I dunno, just shit to think about.

Here are some big goals that might sound retarded but it would be awesome to work towards:

1 Come out and be totally up front, tell each other painful truths that might be painful but will bring back some level of authenticity back to this sphere. End the NDA’s, let people talk their minds and stop astroturfing who’s allowed to be on who’s shows and exiling certain people.

2 Start fostering quality talent, writers, artists, short film makers, make them mini stars and if they do consistent good work, pay them and sell their products to the fans. QUALITY PROVEN PRODUCT. Make the first couple efforts free, develop pipelines. Foster an audience, turn some heads, then start raking in well earned and big $$$ while growing and giving back to talented creators.

      3. Show some damned respect and appreciation for your audience. Not this fake smoke up our ass patronizing “chads of the internet” shit.

      4. Try some new formats, get some great personalities together and show off some cool new innovative stuff. Maybe a short sketch comedy with Jay and Ryan written by disparu and Az or anyone who fancies themselves a writer or performer, you could play these during FNT sorta like EVS plays his puppet shows, this would be a huge draw and most importantly, just put a fire back under your guys’s ass. Find someone who can use green screen to composite everyone together to make this easy to produce.  Find what sort of writing/ sketches/ scenarios/ AI tech allows for producing really funny easy to make content. Trick is to start small find what works and not burn out. Shit, here’s an idea: create a new forum here on this site, and invite the chat to come here and write their own sketch ideas and you guys could pick your favorites and make them reality, that would be awesome content that everyone could enjoy.

Thing is, this scene is just going through the motions, everyone’s gotten fat and lazy and just shows up, pressed the button and eats up super chats and that fire to produce things of quality is gone, and the respect is gone, and the excitement is gone in many ways.

Ok, probably too much, but just wanted to put some thoughts out there. I don’t like to just criticize without offering potential solutions or trying to not take in criticism myself.

Edit: I think I might have just figured it out, I imagine these guys strike financial deals with their guests to take a % of the profits of the products they sell (in this case that gambit sweater or whatever that shit was) and with that comes an NDA, No discussion of this financial arrangement, no trash talking about the guest, no trash talk about the host. But what they forgot to add to said NDA was no trash talk about the audience, and Danica or whatever the fuck her name was took that opportunity to just go ham on everyone, knowing full well the hosts couldn’t talk shit about her. Just a theory…

Are we above posting about all that deranged drama that unfolded today? I thought about bumping the “let’s have a frank discussion of the rippa situation” with this inane news, but i don’t want to come off as too trollish, and this thread made more sense.

I don’t know what to make of being a fan of this scene any more.

It’s going to be the most rabid fans that show up to these events, but good lord I thought there would at least be one person who could take a damned joke. Or maybe one of these personalities that could have come out and diffused the situation by having a little conversation and break bread with the crazy dude outside.

Eh, this isn’t really some big events or some gotcha for anyone. It’s really just kind of embarrassing. Maybe this scene does deserve some shaming and ridicule, holy moly.

Like, I dunno, a bunch of geeks standing around applauding some weirdo getting arrested dressed up like a goofball isn’t a good look. Yeah he’s a bit of an agitator, I dunno. I think some effort could have been spent to deescalate this without having to bitch out and let the cops do it for you.

Kinda just embarrassing these days to see how these meet ups unfold, maybe this is just what this fandom is, I dunno… a bunch of nerds standing around rooting on the police and celebrating anyone outside their circle getting cut down and incapable of handling anything themselves.

Rippa coulda had a big win here if he’d just walked out and tried to have a straight up convo with the guy. Or Gary… or anyone. This whole thing was just cringe. Like just be like “Hey man, we’re just trying to have a fun event, can you try to cool it off a little bit?”. That’s all, then the ball is in the other guy’s corner to stop being an ass. Not appologizing for the guy, but no side comes out looking good here, one has to wonder, maybe these fans deserve a little heat cheering on the cops and getting so easily offended and defensive.

We really gotta learn to lighten up.

Everything about this scene is cringe these days. And yeah yeah, and i’m cringily posting about it about the forums!

Feel free to call the cops on me.

Had no idea what you were talking about, so had to go look it up for myself. The event looked full of high energy to me prior to that.
One thing about these events, is usually, we will hear kind words from the establishment about how much good business that GnG brought in and I really love hearing that, just like I like when EVS makes that same thing happen for other artists.

I guess Clippaverse will get the attention he was seeking, but has anyone ever done this at a ComicCon, like protesting a ComicCon and engaging with people in line to go to the event? Would any night club allow this kind of thing? Self-promotion among patrons for an event at a venue that you paid for?

One thing that stood out to me was the fixation and close up on Gary’s wife. Nerdrotic has already been through a lot of adversity and it has never let up. They messed with his comic shop, his wife’s hair salon, he had to move out of CA because it’s so bad. As soon as I saw that guy trying to snicker at the wife, I knew it was over for him. This is not a secret. It happened before with that Jesse girl, who Jermy was super nice to, but she decided to start beef with the wife and got tossed for it.

The event looked like a good time had by all, with the exception of one. Guy lost me with the targeted attention to the wife.

Oh, and thanks again for Suno. That site is really good, Tuna.

      #319487

Yeah, I dunno man. I don’t know about Jesse Milestone starting anything crazy with anyone, but she’s certainly the type.

It never sat well with me how Jeff Hicks got ejected from that one event and thrown out along with Jesse. I don’t know the details, but Jeff always seemed like a cool dude who paid his dues and made great content early on and got totally F’d over by this entire sphere, and it all came to a head at these meetups.

It all just seems so gross watching these videos. Eric July surrounded by sycophant’s, Rippaverse stans all over the place. Selling overpriced, chintsy merch. Detractors showing up and getting arrested. Like sleazy grifting for money.

It really just feels like the whole Rippaverse element and the comic book fans have really had a negative affect on this whole scene. I mean, they’re enthusiastic, especially with their wallets, so i get it. You gotta pander to where the money is.

Just kinda lamenting how this all panned out over the years. So much social decay, weirdness, and animosity in everything.
