Over the years, and various incarnations of Superman and Superman’s origins, is that his parents sent him to earth from the Doomed world of Krypton.
But, they have been different interpretations of those events.
From the star exploding, to Superman’s father discovering the planet is about to break itself apart, to Brainiac (after stealing the city of Kandor) destablized the planet which exploded, to Zogol Zaar destroying Krypton on the orders of the Trilium Collective, etc.
