D&D Publisher sued by DragonLance creators/breach of contract

A planned trilogy of Dragonlance novels has become the basis of a lawsuit between a pair of popular fantasy writers and Wizards of the Coast. Last week, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the co-creators of the popular fantasy series Dragonlance, filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington against Wizards of the Coast, claiming that Wizards had breached a contract related to a planned trilogy of new Dragonlance novels.

I would have loved to read those novels.

Per the filing, Weis and Hickman are requesting a jury trial and claim that Wizards’ actions has resulted in damages in excess of $10 million.

Good for Weis and Hickman kicking them in the balls. Dragonlance was my first foray into AD&D books. Next to reading the Star Wars EU back then, Dragonlance was what I dove into to satisfy my need to read fantasy. During an in school suspension (yes I had enough of a certain type of detention that warranted that kind of punishment) I spent that entire day just reading Dragonlance. I think I burned through Dragons of Winter Night in that entire day. No one came to check on me except for lunch, so I just read and read and read.

Fuck WotC. There is a reason many hardcore table top gamers make up homemade systems these days rather than bend the knee to their bullshit.

The “woke” person assigned to over see the novels AFTER it was well underway, wanted to censor it.

Authors are no longer allowed to be creative if it does not fit within the agenda of the woke crybabies.

As a long time Dragon Lance fan (and fan of Weis & Wickman – I have their non-DL novels as well), I hope they not only win, but are allowed to continue to produce AND publish their work WITHOUT any interference from WotC to wokenized their legacy.

That is the most frightening aspect of it all, that true creatives are not allowed to simply do what they are good at without the wokies interfering. I’ve got another 2 months before I quit my agent hunt, start my channel in January, and go the Comicsgate route of building a base to sell my books via crowd funding. Last thing I want is some SJW simp telling me my hero is “problamatic” because he’s white, male, and straight, despite the fact I organically create a wide and diverse cast of characters that exist alongside him.

And yeah, Weis and Hickman’s none Dragonlance series were great. I burned through the Deathgate Cycle during a fencing camp and into a summer break while I was in highschool.

I had most of the deathgate books at one point and never read them cause I could never get my hands on book 1.

I still run DL to this day using a rule system called Savage Worlds. Its my favorite world for gaming in and I kind of have a running list of things that would be going on in every area of the world in the back of my head.

Weis & Hickman need to kick WotCrack in the balls every day till they can get their property under their controll. Id bet that this lawsuit killed the movie deal whatshisname made with them to get the Chronicals onto the screen.

Sadly, they don’t own the rights to DL, wotc does.

Weis & Hickman got a license from wotc to make a brand new trilogy and set up a publisher to print them.

Wotc liked the over-view of the trilogy, and green-lite the project.

Wotc had approved all the drafts on book 1, and W&H were well underway into the second book when wotc changed editors on them.

Those new editors caused the problems.

After having W&H rewrite 70 pages of book two, W&H was told no further drafts would be accepted.

This W&H took as them breaching the contract.

DL has a certain feel to it.  The races are clearly defined.  And that seems to be problematic.  The races does not fit into today’s SJW’s agenda.

If wotc did not want a DL trilogy, they would not have got into an agreement to have one written by the writing dual who made it so famous.

If they wanted all this SJW BS, they should have created their own setting/world to put it into.

But no!  SJW’s cannot create anything.  They can only destroy what is already there with their cancer.

But, to date, wotc has not stated their side, only that while in litigation they will not publicly speak on the matter.

I hope they realize their new editors and the problem and deals with them and let the DL novels go forward based on what was agreed to (script).

How do you get more WOKE than Dragonlance, that thing was riddled with socialism, effeminate propaganda and symbolism.  It was easy to overlook as a kid, but looking back the majority of the serries was woke before woke was a thing.   I shudder to think what psychotic drivel they wanted to push.. Flint and Tasselhoff playing with a hoopak in Tasselshoffs many pockets…. yeesh

I have heard that amazon’s kindle will have the ebook version of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman’s new Dragonlance novel, Dragons of Deceit with a release date of August 9, 2022.

Still waiting for the release date of the paperback version.

That is what I am waiting for – will be purchasing!
