Don’t rush past Good Friday

The most human of virtues is mercy.

Not at all.  Mercy is a virtue of God.  Humans are occasionally capable of it but to practice it we have to set aside what is good for us.  It is a selfless act and when humans attain it, it is very special because it takes much effort for us to do so.

 

That the God believed in humanity despite all of its flaws is reflective of how the highest virtue of man is divine.

God created humanity and everything else.  I would say he had belief or faith in us, he knows exactly who and what we are.  We are called to holiness and sometimes we can express that but again, we do it rarely (relatively speaking) because we are always fighting our humanity.  This is how it is supposed to be.  If you combine our human flaws and tendances to the self and sprinkle in free will, it is a proving ground our souls as we have every opportunity to be holy or not.
