Geeks + Gamers › Forums › Entertainment › Movies › Dune Part 2 – not releasing on Max initially
I was just reading up on the release date and I see it is officially Nov 3rd. But unlike Part 1 its not coming to Max, well at least at first.
I was just super curious if anyone knew why this was?
I didn’t notice that until you mentioned it. Was more interested in the sandworms 🤣! Not only that, there’s not much for IMAX theatres where I live anyway so it’s usually not the first thing I look for on a poster😔. Last film I saw in IMAX 3D was the ‘Jurassic Park’ 20th anniversary re-release ten years ago and that was on the other side of the country where we knew a cinema that did 3D and IMAX (where it was only showing in, so very few places in the UK basically unless you happen to live in London). It was excellent😍
One of my first jobs years and years ago was selling electronics at a local retailer which was more or less like a Circuit City but it was locally family owned. This is back when you got paid commission on such things and high-end stuff was profitable. We had a whole room dedicated to audio/video for testing out sound equipment. So we would play the same movies all day everyday (on laserdisc) and I remember Jurassic Park was one of those. Rob Roy was another. My point being Jurassic Park might be on of the most awesome movies for a venue like IMAX. I bet that was awesome to experience.
It’s also why when I saw this scene in “40 Year Old Virgin”, I felt it, …in my soul. LOL
It was my dream to see ‘Jurassic Park’ at the cinema since I was only a toddler when the first film came out and I only ever saw the ‘Jurassic World’ films at the cinema. When they re-released the first ‘Jurassic Park’ film ten years ago I saw the opportunity and took it. It was a very good experience (aside from the kid behind me kicking my chair half way through the film🙄) but…is it supposed to be that LOUD in IMAX😂? My ears were ringing with the T-Rex’s roar for a couple of hours afterwards🤣!
I am very happy to hear you got to experience a thing you had wanted to for so long. :) That does not generally happen many times in life.
And yes, yes it is supposed to be that loud LOL! Back at that electronics store we would crank it when customers were testing things out. I honestly believe that movie was created in part for that exact experience. :)
PS – I am on Amazon buying Jurassic Park in 4k right now :)
Would love to get it on 4K but I’ve a normal TV and blue-ray player so I doubt it’d make much difference in 4K. I’ve got it on dvd so I don’t need to😂. The first film I ever saw in 3D- not sure if it was in IMAX though- was the first ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ film. The flying scenes were amazing in 3D😍.
Yes that was a great movie! My favorite movies are the ones that come from or are themselves unique stories or even common themes but just being told in a new or different way.
The ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ books are a lot different from the films (the dragons were a LOT smaller for starters) and a bit more light-hearted than what DreamWorks ended up doing (although that scene in which Hiccup is trying to imitate Gerald Butler still has me spluttering with laughter to this day 🤣 “Excuse me bar-maid; I think you brought me the wrong ofspring!” 🤣). It’s one of the few incidents- such as ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Dune’ (2021)- in which I’d say a film has improved on the books.
I find it the fact more often than not that if you watch a movie that is just a wonderful story in its own right, especially if it was unique, it was a book long before a movie.
