@ IllTemperedTuna
Would you do me a favor? Don’t mix me in with “neckbeards”, or “Rippastant”, etc, etc. It’s nonsense. That is not like me, or nothing ABOUT me. I am not anything like any frakin’ “neckbeard”. I also do not fall in line for the Ripperverse, I simply disagree with much of your assessments of him. I utterly dislike generalizing people when you don’t know them. With comments like “you guys” or “you people” No, don’t group me in with other people and stereotypes, because that is NOT me. I would greatly appreciate it.
In general I have done nothing but be civil towards you on here and been a part of some discussion with you from time to time. I don’t need to be name called, when I have done nothing of the sort towards you. As I have said before, some of us prefer to be civil in our discussions. We would simply like the same in kind. It’s that simple. I am older, I’ll be 50 next week. When you get older you look at things from a more calm (at least I hope so) and sometimes life educated perspective, it’s why I prefer to try and keep things civil. I think it creates more paths to commonality or even friendship, instead of division, which comes from drama, lashing out, and sometimes flat out idiocy.
Moving on.
You are right. SWTheory is a class act, Iv’e watched him for years now, but he gets a lot of unfounded hate. Some of the garbage I see people say about him online is utterly ridiculous, and many of them have never even watched him to find out what is true or not. That is exactly what I am talking about when I prefer people to be civil. Look at all the division, hate, and drama is causes him? I mean, people have threatened to rape his girlfriend, kill his parents, etc. For what exactly? Having an opinion on Star Wars? It’s just not right. He does the same thing as I do, calling for civility, he always has, and I respect that about him. He doesn’t deserve all this bullcrap.
It was never my intent to mix any level headed person into my attacks on the petulant Rippastans that have dogpiles all discourse on here, on twitter, and litererally anywhere there is public discourse. I still stand by the post where I thanked you and Comicsgate for being level headed while the rest of us hot heads go at it.
I know my threads are angry and hot headed and neckbeardy themselves, but I can honestly say I have never seen an intellegeable, mature, and self aware post from a Rippastan in the wild.
Anyway, I think I’m kinda spent shitting on Rippaverse at this point, I’ve blathered, kicked, screamed, and acted like a real fuck face myself if i’m being honest and at this point I’m not sure there’s that much to save. Some of us made appeals when they could have made a difference, but at this point everyone has kinda dug themselves a hole and now we’re wallowing in the mud.
I like to believe my posts on Rippaverse were more than drama for drama’s sake. I wanted to raise issues that everyone saw in the hopes they would be rectified, I even offered solutions, but maybe they were dumb or pie in the sky, oh well. This is why we can’t have nice things. We’re all stubborn, petty, and thinking with our tribal brain and too prideful to make positive change. It’s easier and more fun to give in to our anger than it is to do the right thing, which was was the entire plotline of star wars until those commies got their hands on it and the same reason star wars is going to shit and failing.
@Comicsgate yeah it’s kinda sad what’s become of comics and all good entertainment. Good content isn’t a switch we can flip and turn back on. The George Lucas’s and Stan Lees of our generation are watching short videos on tick tock, never got that entry for that opportunity because of their gender and sexuality, never got that opportunity to rise up the algorythm as the fingers on the switches suppress all talent the elite don’t approve of. To say nothing of the failing school systems and crap culture we foster today.
Maybe somewhere out there some kid is watching anime and making goofie sci fi shorts and YouTube who will save the future of cinema, or maybe they draw big tittied manga girls but in a few years they’ll mature, become obsessed with some old school TV show and write amazing stories inspired from the more quality story telling of the east and they’ll rise above and save the west’s failing culture and morality.
I don’t know, but the whole situation is so sad. We’re all so docile and surrendered to laying down and fading away, surrounded by our astroturfed algorithms, fast food, and rage bait.
We’re living in a really terrible cultural crisis, it’s going to take years, maybe an entire generation to repair the damage, to teach people to value an honest days hard work again, how to foster talent, how to identify good entertainment and rally behind it . How to build culture again.
FANTASTIC read here from someone on Twitter regarding the quality of entertainment and the Rippaverse and all this negative reaction to criticism:
Eric’s latest trailer. I like the part at :30 seconds, when he talks about how Shadow Valley has good people but the city acts like the rural doesn’t exist. Now, that is what I am talking about. That is good writing. It’s what Idaho, CA and Netherlands are dealing with, which is being screwed over by the state cutting off their water. Even if it’s just a little bit, it’s good writing!
Also, just the name Shadow Valley makes me think Shadow Government or Deep State.
Reading below, and I don’t mind your feedback threads. They have been some of the best ones. I heard some things about EJ, but I never posted them. They were minor points, but they were along the lines with what you were talking about. Suffice it to say, that I do not necessarily disagree with a lot of your points, only with me, it’s not personal. I won’t look it up yet, but there were murmurs that gatekeepers were trying to get out in front of any true indie Comics movement and hijack and funnel it thru an approved bottleneck. Again, I won’t get into that yet, and it’s only a couple lines that a pundit I read wrote about EJ.
As for the maturing part of it, I am not a writer, but I’d just take the flame hate comments and literally put them in the comic because sometimes, they are the best ones. Also, I am not in his position, but it would be a dream to just be the “Bidness” guy. Pay the artists and writers under the umbrella of controlling the IP. Would be a dream place to be in.
I love the straight up positivity of that trailer. For all the shit everyone is giving it, it does have some positive elements.
I’m really starting to feel over shitting on Eric at this point. I watched his latest video premiering Goodying and it reminded me of why I was rooting for the guy for so long. Dude is stubborn as hell, but in a good way, and you can tell he’s kind of letting go of the creative aspects of the comics and embracing his role as the bussiness guy. He even adopted saying “Bidness”, which showed a bit of thicker skin.
Anyway, seemed like Rippa was maturing and learning to not take this shit so seriously and actually take in criticism without looking like a punk about it. It’s been a crazy few years of ups and downs and it’s good to see the Eric manning up and taking things on the chin. When you’re first starting it’s easy to take things personal and I can only imagine the crazy rollercoaster ride it’s been having that much crazy success blow up in your face when you’re surrounded by so many people who are going to tell you think are this or that and from one extreme or the other, either positive or toxic and it’s hard to figure out where the sensible middle is.
