Hi all. With Hollywood films these days having ever better production values but consistently worse scripts, I have taken it upon myself to fix some of recent films. I try to keep the films intact, but carefully snip every bad line or scene I can, complete with seamless audio transitions, L-cuts etc.
Since the new Scream Movie releases tomorrow, I just finished a fanedit of Scream 2022, now called Scream 5 complete with a new animated logo and everything.
Before I post it, I want to ask, what is G&G’s policy on fanedits? I know Ivan did his Last Jedi Edit a few years ago, but ever since it’s been silent on that front. With G&G being such a fan driven community, is there room for this here? Are there rules for posting edits? No direct download links, downloads sent via pm only, or maybe linking to a landing page?
Also, what other movies would you like me to remix?
Should be fine so long as the links are going to a trusted video platform such as YouTube or Rumble.
I think you get copyright struck on youtube or rumble, due to the content ID filters. Fanedits should fall under fair use:
“17 U.S.C. § 107
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 17 U.S.C. § 106 and 17 U.S.C. § 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:
1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.”
Fanedits can be seen as for educational purposes, since they demonstrate the impact editing has on how a film feels or functions. And they are nonprofit.
Safe to say the effect on the market value impact is nil as well.
The content ID filters arent designed to take such legalities into account and generally strike any video that has more than 10 seconds of detected material.
I generally host my edits on mega. I guess Odysee would be an option, too, there are quite a few edits there
I think Odysee would be fine but links to a download site would not.
Is this for the whole movie, or just some scenes?
I know FXitinPost was famous for their 6:11 “Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined” that is on youtube.
