Which films do exactly that. Tell me below
Ghostbusters (the real one from 1984). It’s great no matter how old it gets and is a prime example of how great a movie can be when you have passionate film makers and a talented cast.
Alien – Still nails absolutely everything and set the bar for female leads that has never really quite been met since.
Blade Runner – I didn’t appreciate it at the time but it just seems to get better with every viewing.
The Wizard of Oz – Quite possibly the definitive timeless classic. Although now that I have said I’m sure there will be some NPC screecher banging on about how racist or sexist it is.
Eraserhead – Still a really bleak mindfuck.
Full Metal Jacket – Still immensely quotable and hard hitting.
A movie about brilliant man with messages that resonate even today. And yes, he should have been allowed to attack the Soviets.
Imagine if Patton had not died and succeeded in running for President?
Aliens is one I watch at least once a year! This movie is on the top of my list on holding up.
Terminator 80’s version
Ghostbusters 80’s version
Good Fellas
The Matrix (All of them)
Lord of the Rings (Jackson, can’t believe these are getting old, time flies!)
Those are my top 5 picks to add here.. Seems I agree with the other choices in here too.
Oh forgot to Add Back to the Future movies! Love those movies!
Jurassic Park,Halloween 1978 amd Jaws
Lord of the Rings trilogy (Peter Jackson). Story telling and music and everything about it. The love and care Jackson put into it shows.
Excalibur (1981) It stayed true (or as true as can be) to the story of King Arthur.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Great music, great special effects (you don’t need CGI for everything. Models sometimes look better). It has everything that made the original TV series so fun to watch. The humor, character personalities, story, etc.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It is a fun comedy that does not take itself seriously.
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) & Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) Part of the charm is the great stop motion effects. Sure it is outdated by today’s standards, by the films as a whole still stands the test of time, IMO.
The Ten Commandments (1956) Great costumes and music, and the story is still relevant.
Alien, Predator, The Terminator. All three had you on the edge of your seats. Great ORIGINAL stories sorely missing in hollywood today.
Die Hard
Princess Bride
Clue
Star Wars a New Hope
Ghostbusters
These are in my wheelhouse of movies I literally have memorized. Actually I have a lot of movies memorized. I like movies as background noise for getting chores done around the house.
