Fixing the Sequel Trilogy

I would have picked up where the expanded universe left off. The galaxy is in a period of flux, the Alliance is still reeling from the chaos of Abeloth and the decision of the Jedi Order to separate themselves from it while the Imperial Remnant is having trouble adjusting to its new status as a democratic society. A group of Imperial moffs hear about the jedi hunting for the sword that can kill The Ones just in case Abeloth returns and lure a jedi to where they have been keeping some of the Sith made items Emperor Palpatine gathered during his reign, suggesting that the sword may be among them. In fact they have the jedi pick up a sword that was designed to turn its user to the Dark Side, bringing about his rapid fall.

For episode seven the fallen jedi helps the renegade moffs overthrow the Imperial Remnant.

In episode eight they expand their power to bring about the collapse of the Alliance.

In episode nine the fallen jedi and the renegades who have been using him are finally defeated but at the cost of Luke Skywalker’s life, thus clearing the way for some decent new characters to take over for whatever comes next.
