Have a marginal interest in this as it’s keeping pulse on the state of populism in Europe. Le Pen seems to have garnered more popularity compared to 2017 but it’s looking like a close race (2017 results for comparison).

Considering how she lost the first round, she’ll probably won’t win. If she somehow pulls it off it’ll be narrow victory but it’ll be major political shake-up for western Europe.

Great, Macron will win because of single, frustrated, lonely wine-aunts that have a crush on Macron and Boomers who would rather see the terrorist attacks continue than risk being called a racist.

First off I fail to believe that EVERY major election across EVERY country falls to 50/50.  I think that’s BS.

Secondly, Macron will win because France is basically socialist anyway and they will just cheat if they need too.

Who has said this? When has anyone said this? Of course not every country has candidates running neck-to-neck in every major election. Le Pen wasn’t even close in the last election. What this poll shows is changing attitudes in the French population.

Secondly, Macron will win because France is basically socialist anyway and they will just cheat if they need too.

Define “basically socialist,” but otherwise the point of this topic was to raise awareness of the subject that things might be changing in Europe, not suggest that voting is pointless.

no they aren’t. What do you mean ”basically socialist?” France does not fit the description of socialism.

and they will just cheat if they need too.

      enough with the conspiracy theories.

I hope Macron wins simply because Le Pen is batshit crazy and idolizes Putin. With her as president, France would distance itself from the rest of Europe quite a lot.

both are extremely bad. the election is basically to pick which one is less awful.

the thing is, with macron we already know the stuff he does… with Le Pen thou… we have no idea what she might do lol it’s even scary to think about it… so yeah, Macron will win.

The vast majority of major elections in democratic countries run almost 50/50.  Very few don’t. Is that anecdotal?  Yes, I don’t have a study to point to that claims that it’s just what I have observed.  And I do not believe that could possibly be the case in reality.

Macron is a globalist tool and they run that same playbook that runs all over the west.  They will cheat if they have to.  Macron will win but it will be shown to be close regardless of how it really pans out.

Also, most polls are BS gas lighting I do not believe any of them.  Next time you see one click down about 20 layers until you hit the actual poll/study and you will normally find it was done by phone in certain areas with 1000 or less people.  Once in a great while you will find a legit one that sampled 10k people or more but typically its less than 1000.

Wanting a non-aggressive relationship with Russia is not the same thing as sucking up to Putin.

I know where you stand on the whole Russia-Ukraine conflict and I can understand why Russia might be more than a concern for you, but you’ve also been regurgitating neolib rhetoric on that subject which I’m all too familiar with. If you think mainstream politicians care about you and are “standing up to Russia” on principle you’re mistaken.

Putin is no friend to Western nationalists but maybe if the West offered Russia a seat on the table in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union then perhaps the country could’ve been better off and these territorial disputes it has might’ve been negotiated with, therefore avoiding this unnecessary bloodshed. Instead neoliberals have treated the country with contempt and scorn, unwilling to move past a Cold War-era mentality for thirty years (especially baffling when they turn a blind eye to the Chinese).

With her as president, France would distance itself from the rest of Europe quite a lot.

        This is a bad thing?
