Oh they beat you to it. Recent articles refer to The Clop ransomware gang as “Russia Linked”. But interestingly enough if you look at older articles from a year or 2 ago (Clop has been around and in the news the last few years) I do not see “Russia linked” mentioned. All I see are mentions that they speak Russian but the few arrests that have been made, get this, were in Kyiv, Ukraine.
I think the reality is it’s not a state backed organization, if it was it would not be asking for cash. And they seem to be so all over the place and so efficient it’s probably a large group spread around in different parts of the world.
Now the real fun begins when the Federal organizations begin to find out what was taken.
