I am curious if anyone here is following this tournament?
We are at the semi-finals stage.
The final four teams are:
Team USA vs Team Canada.
Team Finland vs. Team Germany.
The two losers from Saturday’s games will then face off for the Bronze Metal Game in the early game on Sunday.
The two winners from Saturday’s games, will then face off for the Gold Metal Game in the later game on Sunday.
Team Canada is in the Gold Metal Game.
Team USA will play for Bronze.
We will soon know who their opponents will be.
Team Finland is on its way to the Gold Metal Game.
It should be a great/slow games as Finland beat Canada in the preliminary round in a shootout.
Playing for Bronze the US had in the preliminary round beat Germany. The Germans will most likely want to avenge that loss, and if the American’s can get motivated to play for third, they might do it.
2019 finals rematch. As a Finn, I find it unbelievable that we are in the finals twice in a row with the team we have. Our team consists of players in the finnish league with some KHL players and two NHL players, but they are by no means star players (Määttä from LA and Ruotsalainen from BUF).
If NHL ever starts recruiting European coaches the I think Jukka Jalonen could be pretty high on the list. In 10 years he has 2x WC golds, 1x u20 WC gold and now either a third gold or a silver, all with a very average roster. Wouldn’t be surprised if Kekäläinen tried to lure him to the Blue Jackets.
Team USA won 6-1 over Team Germany to take the Bronze Metal (third place).
Another overtime game.
In the end, Team Canada takes home the GOLD Metal.
Team Finland takes Silver.
After Team Canada started 0-3 in the tournament, being able to win gold was rather surprising.
