If you want to read a good crime/thriller series, but gets easily turn off by the ton of words that appear in front of you, look no further than James Patterson. My first foray into his books was 1st To Die, from the Women’s Murder Club series. He breaks each scene into a bite size chapters like what you see in a CSI TV series. Well-paced, detailed enough without writing an essay of one specific scene, and balanced enough where you will be on edge to chase the next chapter.

The man wrote a sh%t-ton of books, so you have a huge library to choose from.

Also some additional info, Will Jordan, a.k.a. The Critical Drinker, wrote a book together with James Patterson called “Deadly Cargo” released in 2017.
