Journalists face ‘alarming’ levels of stress, trauma and harassment, report suggests
A new report finds that members of Canada’s news industry are suffering “alarming” levels of work-related stress and trauma.
As is every OTHER industry, groups, etc.
The survey suggests that media workers suffer high rates of mental health symptoms, with 69 per cent of respondents reporting anxiety and 46 per cent saying they struggle with depression.
…
The survey also indicates that exposure to trauma is taking a toll on media workers, with 80 per cent of participants saying they’ve experienced burnout as a result of reporting on stories about death, injury and suffering.
As is everyone else, too!
More than half of respondents said they had received online harassment and threats, and 35 per cent said they had faced harassment in the field.
Considering all the lies, biases, misinformation, mischaracterizations, fear mongering, censorships/hiding stories, etc, these “activists posing as journalists” have been doing, in Canada and in the States, is it any shock people want nothing to do with these ‘people’.
After all these decades of paparazzi, tabloids, etc, is it any wonder people want nothing to do with those whose “job” it is to get something they can report on, or as we have seen, inject themselves into the stories.
And “The declining public trust in the news media and polarization of news..” also effects how journalists view themselves. If they can openly lie on-air (ie. stand infront of a burning building and calling it a ‘mostly peaceful protest’ and not a riot) shows you cannot trust the media/journalists to tell the TRUTH.
This shows when in June 24, 2021: “The United States ranks last in media trust — at 29% — among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries”
Until the media/journalists stop politicizing the news, and begins reporting on just the news (without censoring it – biden laptop when it came out first) and not selectively report it, making claims it is “fake”, or “misinformation” when in fact it is TRUE and ACCURATE. Allow the audience to decide instead on it
Allowing one side of the political spectrum to make threats with impunity…
The media/journalists, so long as they act as a vocal point for an agenda/political stance and NOT as a neutral news sharing source, TRUST in the members of journalists will remain lower, and their reactions to journalists approaching them will remain negative.
Clean up your industry!
Bullsh!t, I doubt there is a single actual journalist among them. And furthermore I doubt they face much “harassment” it’s just a defense mechanism they use. For example, every time someone on the left side of things takes any heat at all, “omg I got death threats”… uh huh, sure you did.
Not at nearly the levels at which journalists dish those things out.
That’s not only a great point it is a very important one.
I am calling BULLSHIT…. 29% is way to high. you put 100 people in a room fresh off the street and I bet you cant get 5% to say they trust the media.
I agree with that 100%. But I think that % would move one way or the other depending on where you are. But I am with you, 30% is just no way.
“What is 1,000 bad urinalists (bad journalists) stuck at the bottom of the ocean? Answer: A good start.
