I genuinely think ‘hijacking’ and ‘useful idiocy’ are parts of the problem here. What do I mean by that… everytime a ‘minority’ or potentially oppressed group fights their way to some level of recognition and ‘rights’ for themselves, there’s folks joining in that eventually blow that move out of proportion, and occasionally twist the ideas behind the actual equality the group in question desired. I cannot speak much for black people. I’m Slavic. We do have black people here, but they’re almost all tourists occasionally passing through, or the odd individual that settled here for some reason, often meeting a spouse in a different country and coming back with them here, but I’m not going to pretend to fully understand the situation of Black Americans in America when I only have second-hand knowledge.
“Trans-rights’ used to be a slightly simpler thing because transpeople weren’t being conflated with ‘Nonbinary’ people (and for all the letters they possess, LGBTQ+ people for some reason refuse to split the two groups now), and the entire concept of gender has been put through the grinder (hence… how many are there now? Well, a lot of genders, and claim gender is *purely* a social construct – it isn’t, gender norms are socially reinforced and just how a member of a particular gender should act are, but the roots of some of those are in both biology and mentality that often persists in either sex). A person was diagnosed with gender dysphoria and put through a process. If at the end of that process the best treatment for them was a level of gender reassignment, that was carried out. I am fine with this, in fact, based on people’s rights to have a choice and right to pursue happiness, I support it, and I don’t pretend to be able to fully understand how a person with what is a diagnosable condition feels.
But now this isn’t the case, there’s voices calling for immediate identification anytime, anywhere, and all the other stuff already mentioned. I believe this ‘caught on’ so well and so many genders were ‘made up’ because the current community in the world at large, but especially in highly developed countries is in a certain spot with their youth. Not only does information travel quickly now, ‘Identity’ is something much harder to truly get and focus on. Think about it, only two if not less decades ago, if someone had a physical characteristic they might get a nickname. If someone was particularly good at something, they might get a reputation for that, be it school science, art, singing, sports, creativity, whatever. Children and teens could perceive themselves as at least somewhat special based on that. But now, you’re literally an incredibly short look at the internet away to know that just half a state over there’s this dude or dudette who’s been doing what you are doing for half as long a time as you are but seems to be twice as good. You’re no longer ‘The Ginger”, the “Guy who plays sports well”, the “Kid who’s already good at cooking”, the ‘One who writes beautiful stories’ or the ‘Teen that will certainly be a famous singer/painter one day’.
But there is activism that promotes ‘uniqueness’ and lets you feel ‘different’ from others. You just need to say a few words about how you’ve never felt quite like the other girls and boys your age and name a few things about pronouns or how you’d like to be called in terms of your perception of masculinity, femininity, or anything inbetween. You get to even name it yourself, as special as you want it to be. And then a bunch of people will claim to love and support you for it.
I don’t neccessarily think literally everyone who doesn’t straight up identify as male or female and all ‘nonbinary’ people are ‘invalid’. If I can agree that someone’s mind and body can be out of sync about their perception of themselves in terms of gender, it is perhaps possible someone may feel so stuck between the two they genuinely don’t think they can call themselves one or the other, or be so removed from the traits and their own perception of the two they can’t identify with either at all. But considering how rare gender dysphoria actually is, I’d have thought those states would be even *more* rare.
Adding to @FallenOmegaStar ’s comment, I also think a big factor is just not yet understanding that political issues are complicated. Like if a 12 year old gets asked ”would you like if everyone was equally rich?” The kid would probably say yes, not understanding at what cost and unfair governmental biased aid it requires to accomplish that. Leftist political ideas resemble a chilidish dream which then are basically impossible to achieve without spawning unfairness and inequality in other places, which the young kids don’t realize yet
That’s a great point. And I think that is why they use that thought process against the very young. Hence why they have taken up residence in colleges and other schools. Not only does that thought process appeal to those who have not thought it through but also those whom are self obsessed.
