Hello again, MrDragonbane. I view post counters as counter productive to a forum discussion. I am also glad that Geeks and Gamers did not follow the WotC D&D forum models but came up with their own solutions to forums that encourage independent thought and discussion. I agree with you that wisdom does not come by running your mouth or chasing numbers. However, it does come from civil responses and actual reasons as you have stated clearly. I appreciate your replies and opinions on your posts.
Well the like/dislike button comes in handy when some unbelievably bad shit, like the new warriers/Gotham high, or anything with queen bree pops up, at least the normal people of the world can show there dissatisfaction with this shit being deepthroated down there necks.
Hello Siobhan Frederick, thank you for your reply. When I created this forum topic, I did not know about the consequences of the like and dislike buttons on social media and forums. The reason is because I do not use these platforms as often. I also appreciate your insights into the purpose and history of the like and dislike buttons. In terms of implementation, if you do not want to implement these buttons then I am perfectly fine with it. It was just a suggestion and a topic of discussion.
Hello Afcpt1, thank you for your reply and your opinion on the topic. However, now, I prefer not implementing a like/dislike button on the Geeks and Gamers website. I appreciate having independent thoughts on different forum topics rather than having a popularity contest about the latest trends, the latest topics, and the latest products. It just sounds like a catastrophe waiting to happen.
Agreed.
Dragonbane, heyas! :)
I do like the idea of a post counter. Or even being able to see how long somebody has been a member. It gives a good idea of whether they are somebody who has invested some time and effort into being a member of a site/community. As well as being able to get some indication of whether it’s an alt account or not.
I guess this last part just comes from having been on the staff side of things, but I actually like to see it when I’m on one my usual hangouts on the ‘net, and I see somebody who has been a member of the site for a couple of years, or a lot of years, and still actively engaging with other members. It’s the warm fuzzies LOL.
Hiyas Soibhan. This is just a tad bit off topic, I apologize. But I really like how if you reply to a comment, it adds that comment into the same subthread section as the post that is being replied to. It’s really cool to see the comments get separated out like this. And makes it a lot less confusing, than seeing them all as a list that just reaches down a page. Where replies to particular comments are just mixed in with replies to specific comments.
A very cool feature. Thanks for implementing this :)
Heyas Afcpt1 :)
I think, that in cases like what you’re talking about, it would be a cool idea to be able to have a poll in the thread of the post. Which, actually… expands on the types of responses that people can give, other than just like/dislike.
Forum Polls allow people to put in their opinion, based on the options the thread maker adds to the poll, while also allowing people to further expand on that by posting to the comments section of the thread.
Good thing not like/dislike buttons here cus sjws will try to hijack the forum
Generally speaking about the like and dislike button on social media, I don’t trust the ratings on any post, cus let’s say you a huge audience like you have 14 million followers subscribers or whatever, no matter what say people will agree will you, that doesn’t mean you are right they are just your fans trying to back you up and maybe they don’t agree with you they just want to support you, and by seeing all those likes retweets or whatever it might affect other people’s opinions cus they will be like oh wow many people agree maybe he’s right, you know what I mean, you can say the most craziest shit like let’s kick white men out of office and replace with some illegal immigrants and if you have huge audience you will get support lol
Hello Zues44, thank you for your reply. I agree with you that like/dislike buttons could spoil the forums for everyone in the Geeks and Gamers community.
Hello again, Zues44. I see your point on social media’s like/dislike buttons. You gave good examples and good reasons as why like and/or dislike buttons have been problematic in social media history.
Depends, they do have their uses, the meme forum for example, so many memes posted do you really need additional posts in-between of people saying they liked it? Something like that mostly only needs a thumbs up.
I prefer the point system that Reddit has over like/dislike. I feel like it better encourages good posts and discourages bad ones. You also can tell people who consistently give good insight into topics which is useful when you are new to a community or trying to find information about a specific thing.
You, sir, are a lazy clicker. “Dude, that’s hilarious!” is far more gratifying than, “random likey clicky thingy”.
