Can we please make this forum a little bit more organic in the ways threads are created?

Figured we could just be reasonable and govern ourselves on here for the most.  There is one member on here who seems to think they can hog the whole forum and topics to themselves.

I like the enthusiastic nature however this is taking away from new members or members soon to join.  At some point the topics will become flooded.

Why not limit the amounts of topics we can make per day.  I would say 5-8 topics per day is more than reasonable.

Most forums I have been a part of limit their topics per user per day.

This will allow the site to feel much more organically grown, over lets say one guy making 50 threads about what your favorite thing is.

    It becomes rather annoying IMO.

Edit: To add I wouldn’t want to discourage anyone from writing about what they are passionate about.  And don’t want to pick on just one person either.  Nor do I want anyone censored or banned.  Don’t want to ignore anyone either.  This is just a matter of being simply reasonable.

Made 10 threads today?  Okay make a list of 10 more you can make in just 24 hours.  I am happy people can be enthused over this new forum.  However I have a hunch this is more about farming points than really anything else.  Exploiting a system to maybe get a free shirt or merch.  When the same could be done over a period of time, not in a single week.  Reason and common sense logic here.

We all know who this is about. I fully support any measures to stop this madness.

I’ll be honest, I’ve started avoiding certain sub-forums because I dread having to scroll and scan through certain mass-produced threads to find the others.  It’s that bad.

I’d like to be able to filter out certain accounts; that sounds really negative though and I don’t want to foster any negativity here.  I think Oldie_Wan’s suggestion is a very good compromise.

I dont really agree because this forum is kind of dead at times. Days or several hours go by without anyone creating a topic in a category. I would agree if the forum had more active users. How about a block button instead so you dont have to see a users post.

That would work for me, Ghost99.

          I disagree.

If  you are using http://www.geeksandgamers.com/topic as the go to direct shot to the forums, it’s constantly active. I believe many of us do that, which is why we are all very annoyed by He Who Shall Not Be Named Less Another Of His Pointless Threads Be Spawned. When we arrive to see if there are discussions we want to participate in, to suddenly see 2 pages of nothing but this garbage…it’s massively frustrating.

I already post a lot on these forums, because this is very old school and I love old school, but at best maybe I’ll start three actual topics in a week? Maybe four? That’s in a week. He Who Shall Not Be Named Less Another Of His Pointless Threads Be Spawned is dropping three or four times that in a day. He’s abusing the system and all of our eyes.

So as someone who is very active this early in the forum’s life, I have no problem with a daily topic creation limit, because there are plenty of conversations going on that I did not need to start which I am happy to contribute to.

I do not believe in blocking people unless they are being a truly offensive troll with abusive language and actions towards me. I follow the same rule when in an MMO. I try not to block anyone because what if for some crazy reason I end up in a raid with them one day and they say something I need to see (I’m a raid leader, so that’s how I think). Blocking and ignoring does not solve a problem. Actually putting rules into place for people to follow does.

The problem with using the Topic list view is that the recent “sometime ago” time stamp bug broke it.

I agree blocking has negative implications, which is why I prefer the wise one’s suggestion.  But either one would work for me.

Im not a fan of censorship. Thats why I left Twitter and Facebook. If i cant make a topic even though that category hasn’t had any new topics in over a day thats pretty ridicules. Just look at YouTube category. Its been over a day. And just looking at the forum in topics is going to make it look more crowded.

Whatever they did to fix that problem worked. It’s been two days since I had  the “sometime ago” bug.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. You are afraid you can’t make a topic in a forum section that has not seen activity if you are under a topic creation limit? I fail to clearly see your point.

I think it happens whenever they move threads from one sub-forum to another, so it might be a, on-again/off-again reoccurring issue, unless they’ve figured out the root cause and are able to avoid it now — hope so.  It was back last night, cleared up again today.

Yes exactly this forum just isn’t active enough for me to start limiting the amount of topics people can creat a day. My only problem is when someone creates a topic that has already been created.

Oh, yeah, that’s another issue I’ve seen.  There is one person who has started creating threads with the exact same titles and the same OP text, in more than one forum — manual “cross-posting”.

And also if you look at the forum through topics only you are getting only the post that are getting responses and are active. So it will look active but some topics in other categories will be ignored.
