I see articles like this now and then. It’s a case where people understand the problem but not the cause.
If you read this you will see that people are upset that cheap fast food is no longer cheap and that McDonald’s is to blame because they made profits. Well, that is how business works. The entire goal is to make profits.
However, if you are upset about prices at the grocery store or McDonald’s you need to have a word with the people you voted for because they (and others like them) are the cause for supply issues and inflation. Years of bad policy have led us here not the fact that a company makes money.
You will also see in the article where someone comes close to this thought but their answer is that the company should just take the hit. Well that is not how business works and its not anywhere near as simple as they just need to make less money. There is an entire web of consequences for such a thing that makes it all the way down to the common guy.
Do not blame the companies for passing down costs our governments inflicts because doing so does not address the problem. And in some cases voters are to blame. That $15+ dollar an hour minimum wage is not paid by the company. It’s paid by the consumer (all company expenses are). So all you have done is raised your own prices while not really doing much for workers who now get less hours and are getting replaced by robots.
The path to hell is paved with good intentions.
Increasing the minimum wage at what is a temporary job (usually first job experience for alot of teenagers) has been proven those expenses are not just past on down to the cost of the products, but also in reduced hours (usually equaling less earnings per pay-period). So this government policy is actually WORSE for the people they claimed will make it better. It also helped bring in more automation (self serve kiosks to place your order – removing the need for a cashier).
Be it a fast food company, or your local coffee shop, you the consumers help PAY for the government mandated pay raises as employee expenses makes up part of how they determine the prices you the consumer pays.
Simple economies in action.
“Be it a fast food company, or your local coffee shop, you the consumers help PAY for the government mandated pay raises as employee expenses makes up part of how they determine the prices you the consumer pays.”
The evil part is not only is this very often attributed directly to repetitious bad policies but when that starts to get pointed out they misdirect and will tell you that it’s the companies fault and that they are greedy. I see this with all the stores pulling out of San Francisco and Chicago. They blame the companies to the point where in Chicago the mayor was blasting the companies and said he would solve this with government grocery stores.
And this leads us to why things are so bad overall from a political focus. People elect politicians, and whether corrupt or inept (or both) they make horrible decisions that in a few years lead to hardships. Then they tell you they can solve those, just give them more power and money. And people do, and it gets worse and the cycle continues.
Anyone who voted for Joe Biden because they thought he would do something positive needs to find better news sources. Biden (like Bernie and Pelosi) have been in government for 40-50+ years. They helped make all the problems we have today. Yet people think their promises to fix the things they caused has some value. That is insanity. Call them evil, call them feckless, call them misguided. It does not matter what you attribute it to they have demonstrated no ability to solve anything.
A cog in the machine that tells you it’s going to overthrow the machine is lying.
Pretty sure that even with the increased prices at the grocer you can prepare a similar meal including fries and a can of soda for around $ 3.00.
But you can’t beat the convenience of fast food.
I suspect that after all the protestations the complainers will just pipe down and cough up the dough.
“Pretty sure that even with the increased prices at the grocer you can prepare a similar meal including fries and a can of soda for around $ 3.00.”
Actually I ran some numbers based on my local grocery store. A burger with no condiments, just meat and bun, no cheese, fries and a single Coke is $5
“But you can’t beat the convenience of fast food.”
Well that’s is a good point. You are paying a premium for having someone cook you food while you are on the road and hand it to you within just a few mins normally.
“I suspect that after all the protestations the complainers will just pipe down and cough up the dough.”
True but the idea they set is think is harmful. The thought that higher prices which are more or less due to bad government policy is caused due to “corporate greed” is just a defense of bad policy. Then people turn to the government to solve the issues they caused. And then those same people are shocked when things get worse.
