I can’t be the only one that looked at the title of that film and thought it was about Megan Markel for a moment 🤣!

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.

The film stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Oscar® winner Matt Damon portrays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.

Academy Award® nominee Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie plays theoretical physicist Edward Teller, Michael Angarano plays Robert Serber and Josh Hartnett plays pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.

Oppenheimer also stars Oscar® winner Rami Malek and reunites Nolan with eight-time Oscar® nominated actor, writer and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.

The cast includes Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Dylan Arnold (Halloween franchise), David Krumholtz (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises).

The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan.

Oppenheimer is filmed in a combination of IMAX® 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX® black and white analogue photography.

Nolan’s films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, have earned more than $5 billion at the global box office and have been awarded 11 Oscars and 36 nominations, including two Best Picture nominations.

@comicsgate : Ya, I caught that RIGHT when it went live. I really don’t go to the theatre much anymore, for many reasons, but I will be seeing this in the theatre. Noland pretty much never disappoints. I have his 4K box set with all his movies.

In a post-apocalyptic near-future, a researcher at an AI lab leads the effort to end a civil war by cloning the brain of a heroic soldier — her mother.

I may actually go to the theater for this one.

On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer (Flanery, The Boondock Saints) gets a last-minute, court-ordered psychiatric evaluation. The killer astonishes visiting psychiatrist Dr. James Martin (Belfi, Entourage) by insisting that instead of trying to avoid his execution, he is in fact a demon—Nefarious—who wants his execution to go forward.

Nefarious further predicts that before the day is out, the doctor will have committed three murders of his own. As a storm gathers outside the prison, Nefarious chips away at Dr. Martin’s resolve and conviction, confounding and unsettling him so much that he begins to doubt his own sanity and fears for his life.

As the two face off, they deliver crackling energy and a series of disturbing preternatural revelations propelling them to an inexorable, astounding conclusion.

About the movie, the directors explain: “There are monsters, and they are very, very real…inspired by Steve Deace’s invention of a master demon named ‘Lord Nefarious’, we began to wonder what it would look like if someone sat down to have a conversation with such a demon. And what it would sound like, if — for reasons of his own — that demon decided to speak the absolute truth, from his point of view. What would be the dynamics of that? That’s what this movie is about.”

On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer gets a psychiatric evaluation during which he claims he is a demon, and further claims that before their time is over, the psychiatrist will commit three murders of his own

‘Nefarious’ (2023) Review – A Thought-Provoking Supernatural Horror Exercise In Morality

What if I were to tell you that this is a Christian film within the horror genre? Some of you may react negatively because one of the biggest criticisms about modern Christian films is that the portrayals of real life are so overwhelmingly uplifting that it borders on parody.

It is rare to see a Christian film or even a modern Christian sermon that covers the topic of sin. Whenever anyone shines a light on the evils that consume our world every day, people tend to get uncomfortable in the face of defined definitions of right and wrong.

With the recent success of John Wick and Super Mario, and several big tentpole comic book movies flopping (Ant Man, Shazam, with The Marvels and Blue Beetle looking to bomb hard as well), do you think the superhero hype is finally over?
I noticed on a pirate streaming site, which has a “trending movies” list of the most streamed films, that while Shazam ranked #1 for about 5-7 days, Ant Man didn’t even rank #1 for one day. These streaming site rankings are unbiased, and you can’t buy movie theatre seats for them either (Captain Marvel). While a few years ago Marvel movies would rank on the front page for months or even half a year in case of No Way Home, it currently looks like the hype is over.
How do people you know feel about it? I know several who turned their backs on Marvel (even Democrats). What will be the next big thing? Video game movies? If so, I expect Sony and Nintendo stock to go through the roof.

I did regret not seeing Godzilla vs. Kong in theaters. The hollow earth one. Just on that concept alone, I wish I would have gone.
    New one coming out.

Saw a screener of The Pope’s Exorcist. Pretty much what I expected. A loud, noisy film with actors making silly faces and grunting and screaming a lot. Like most of these possession horror films, it’s a chore to sit through.

Nefarious looks pretty good on the other hand.

Not sure how I feel about this one. I did like the era of Hunger Games and Divergent. Loved the first Divergent movie a lot.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes – In Theaters November 17, 2023. Starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.

Experience the story of THE HUNGER GAMES — 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem.

THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.

I really enjoyed the ‘Hunger Games’ films and books for what they were and I also enjoyed the ‘Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ book (which I’m currently re-reading in time for the film). Hopefully the film is just as enjoyable despite the fact that I don’t like the lead actress. Sad really because I did like Lucy in the book. Good luck to the guy playing young Donald Southerland; he’s going to need it😂. I would’ve said Kiefer would’ve been good as a young President Snow if he was thirty years younger.

@DragonLady Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I read a few of the books and liked them. I like that particular genre a lot actually and think that it is underrated, which is, YA novels mainly for girls? It’s an untapped niche and source for material, in my opinion. Read a lot of plots and was impressed by stories I’d never heard of.

One thing you are dead right on target about is The Sutherlands. In their day, they were top notch actors. They really stood out. I didn’t always pay attention to things and they were able to capture my focus.

Some commenters do think the movie looks too woke. You know, many times, I would not even think about that unless one of the actors says something stupid.
